  1. Good Luck to all girls this weekend. The season is slowly drawing to a close and you have displayed great football. It is probably time to think about a 2 tier system for Women/girls. Most clubs could chase up a developement team made up of young girls and women that aren't quite ready for the senior womens teams, but would poss. aspire to be apart of. This would put them on an even playing level for teams like Launceston United (who have stuck together, but deserve so much more)& poss. Knights. There are many schools out there that FFT should employ soccer trainers to approach and run courses to see if they are interested or would like to go the next step in their football and try out for a development team or even the Senior Womens Premier League. So many school girls just stop playing after year ten..where do they go?? Chase them up, talk to you club & Presidents & FFT. Keep the momentum going. Hard work pays off.
    My scores for this round is;
    Utas v Ulvie 1-5
    Knights v Somerset 1-2
    Allies v Burnie 2-1
    United v Rangers 0-5
    Devonport v City 4-2

  2. Hi to everyone who follows and supports the Northern Women's Premier League. I've just worked out how to join (Wooo Hoo I'm now a computer geek). I'm sorry that I hadn't discovered this topical forum earlier as from reading many of the historical comments it is obvious that there are many passionate supporters of the women's world game here in the north ot Tassie

  3. What a big week it has been in womens soccer. Some unexpected results I would say. The game in DPort must have been a cracker. Good point Rascal regarding 2 tiers,I agree with concept however my only problem with it would be that unless all clubs put 2 teams in, you would be playing the same 4 or 5 all the time, this would get boring and could be a negative for the standard of womens soccer. It is important for lesser teams to still play quality teams so as to lift and improve.

  4. Devonport V Launceston city

A very good game to watch score at halftime Devonport 0 launceston city 3, Devonport had a lot of the play but just could not get throught City Defence after halftime the heavens opened up at it was very hard battle with both teams fighting hard City score there fourth goal from a corne with a player unamrked in the box. In all this was a very good game played by two very good teams with City just being to Strong on the day.
the final score was Devonport 0 Launceston 4
Congratulations to City for another fine performance.

  5. I think I have digested most of the comments made on the women's game here in the north made on this blog over the season so far. As it has been stated by fellow bloggers, these are individual opinions and I will endevour to not offend when I express them. Anyway, here goes. There has been a lot of tinkering with the roster this year. When FFT schedule the roster they should not allow changes games outside of the week that the game should have been played. This is not about moving a game from Sunday to Wed or Fri. With the current roster we have a few catch up games that will cause Devonport to play 5 games within 3 week. Sometimes this arises due to ground closures and are unavoidable. This is the exception rather than the rule. If a team is unable to field a side due to their better players going on a holiday then they should forfiet that game and not be allowed to reschedule. This has happened on a couple of occasions over the last couple of seasons. This has to be rectified.

  6. Referees. These guys and girls are essential to the running of the game. Without them it is only a kick in the park. Sadly there is a gross lack of referees available for numerous reasons. FFT needs to take a proactive approach to recruiting, training and rewarding refs. This includes partnering with clubs to encourage ex players to become referees even if it is only for their u18's, reserves and ladies teams. That being said if a club organises itself to have a few of their members to become refs, then FFT shouldn't then turn around and be so bloody minded as to then require these volunteers to then travel to other clubs to oversee games that don't involve their club. The downside to thi suggestion is that there will always be the acusation of bias but there are enough fair minded people knocking around all of the clubs in the league that the people who behave poorly will be weeded out if this problem is to be remedied.

  7. RASCAL - Your suggestion of a 2 tier womens womens competition shows real depth of understanding and passion for womens soccer. There is a massive loss to the game of young girls at the u16 level due to the step up to Premier league. All clubs should take a leaf out of Launceston City's book. The junior club (Westside Devils) has approx 450 junor players, of which about 30% are girls ranging from u7 theough to u16. City had the foresight in 2008 to provide a pathway to continuing success (build up on the back of the previous 3yrs) by putting together a development team to cater for this void. They got flogged in the Premier league in the 1st year, finishing last. This season they are 7th out of 10. This improvement comes from training under great coaches and also a supportive structure, ie training alongside quality players to learn the game. For the clubs that currently have a premier league teams, the challenge is to find others passionate enough to develop a 2nd team with the goal to form a Reserves competition.

  8. Mullet - Which result was unexpected????? Ulverstone accounted for UTAS empatically 8-0. (Charlie you are doing a great job with your improving squad), Burnie 1-0 took the points in heavy conditions to get past an ever improving Allies squad, Somerset 2-0 over Knights probable the correct result really looking at the ladder, City 4-0 easily against an over rated Devonport, so I can only put you comment down to Rangers 1-0 taking the gas against Launceston United. It's been a very ordinary July for the Ranger girls who at the start of the year were competitive but have just dropped off in a big way.

  9. I'm sorry that I wasn't there to witness the game and only received updates during the day but from what I heard the report that Devonport had a lot of the play and couldn't get through the City defence maybe a little exagerated. From what I heard it is lucky that the heavens did open up in the second half as if it was a dry track the score could have been ugly.

  10. Some very good points you raise Juan. Thought I had better post a comment as it appears you are the only one commenting. My comments regarding the unexpected results were just that.... unexpected (based on the tips from Rascal). I think it is fantastic that games are getting closer and are at times, somewhat unpredictable. It means that the competition is improving. Of course you are going to have your stand out teams such as Launceston City. They have indeed earnt their right to be where they are over the last few years.

  11. "JUAN", The New Computer GEEK, you would have been better staying in your cave playing with you abacus & keeping your "JUAN" EYED & misinformed comments & criticisms with you. First, your comments on re scheduled matches were misinformed & uneducated before you put things in print get the full facts from the people involved. You stated in your blog that you didn't want to offend any "JUAN", well you did. As Coach of the D'port Strikers Womens Team your comments of an 'over rated Devonport team' & your "JUAN" EYED Report on the game that you didn't see but relied on information supplied by others. Devonport were beaten by a team that adapted to the atrocious conditions better. The City Sweeper had about 50 kicks should tell you what half of the field the game was played on. As for being 'over rated', is this comment based on the amount of games that you have seen Devonport play over the past two seasons or this season?, or is it 'heresay' which you seem to rely on for all your other comments? This Devonport Team had one 15yo (who was thumped in the back by the oldest player on the ground, who some would call 'a great' while the ball was 50 mtrs away), 2x 16yo & 2x 17yo. In the past two seasons we have played 31 NWPL Games, have lost only 3, have scored 197 goals & had 35 goals scored against. The only team to beat the (Mighty City)in 4 years & when you take 12 months off everyone of those girls you would see how young we were last year & yet a "pea Brained Idiot like you" say, we are over-rated, your comments, like the people you represent, DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR THE WOMENS GAME & YOUNG ONES COMING THROUGH (WELL DONE!!). While the club you keep going on about have certainly been successful over the years, have done absolutely nothing positive to help the womens game, especially since I have been involved which is only the last two years.

  12. I am back "JUANCE" again, just to post a few other fact on the "over-rated" Devonport Side. Last weekend was a perfect chance for NWPL Players to show case their talent @ Aurora Stadium in front of a big crowd. The only people who declined an invitation to represent the North were the "Mighty City" Players who instead stacked their team on Saturday to thrash the launceston United KIDS 20-0 & the 'States Leading Goal Scorer' obviously decided to score 8 goals against the Kids rather than play for the North for what ever reasons. Thankfully the City Snub didn't extend to the very talented Caitlin Storay (who played a great game) along with Linsay DaCosta. While the young Devonport girls all put their hands up and 6 represented the North on the day against a very strong & experienced Southern Team. (If you think I'm pi**ed off, your damn right I am, I have spent the past two years trying to change the perception of people RE- the Womens' Game, yet there appears to be some Clubs who have Players/Coaches & Supporters with "RED NECKED" Attitudes, who thrive on derogatory comments, NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE GAME..I won't hide behind an unidentified sign in name and am willing to discuss any of your comments & can be found two nights a week (sometimes three) all day Saturday, all day Sunday in the pursuit of a better deal for Female Players.

  13. Well said Stewie. Didn't realise the City girls piked on the rep game, that's a real shame.

  14. My name is Wayne Couch, I have been involved in and a supporter of women's soccer for the past 20+ years and see this continuing for many years to come.
What is a red necked attitude? Is it one that doesn’t agree with you perspective? Please explain?
Stewart, it’s grade 4 stuff calling someone names like “pea Brained idiot”. Is that one of the derogatory comment that you were referring to in your 2nd post?
    Rescheduled Games
    1. 6 rescheduled games to be played between now and the end of the season. FACT
    2. 5 are the result of ground closures. FACT
    3. The final one, I think, is the result of a postponement due to players being unavailable – my information on this is that 2 key Devonport players were returning from a holiday in Queensland and couldn’t get back early enough to play on the weekend that the game was originally postponed.

    Game report
There was a bus load of Launceston City supporters at the ground on Sunday who saw the game as well. Most of them made similar statements to the ones I published. I did qualify my original comment by saying I wasn’t at the game. Walter Pless did the same thing when he reported on the North v South Games on A-League weekend. Why can’t I do any different, considering I am just trying to put some balance into the commentary on this BLOG.

  15. Just me again.
    Junior development
Referring to your comments on how well the Devonport team has played over the last couple of years based around a junior policy. Devonport Soccer Club should be applauded for elevating their game to a very competitive level in the last couple of years. Every club has up and coming junior players. Some more than others. The point here is that some develop faster than others. We see this in all sports. I think it’s fantastic to see that Devonport has some young players coming through the ranks. It means that there is a future for the club, but don’t think for a minute they are the only club in this position. RASCAL said it perfectly earlier, “most clubs could chase up a development team made up of young girls and women that aren’t quite ready for the senior womens teams” [ July 31 2009, 4.23pm] on this BLOG. (I hope the referencing is correct)
    Club Support / Success
What do you have against Launceston City, or “THEM!” as how you said it [ July 20 2009, 4.20pm]. Where do you base your comments “have done absolutely nothing positive to help the womens game, especially since I have been involved which is only the last two years.” [August 4, 2009 1:18PM]. Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but as you state you have been involved in the NWPL for a very short time and maybe you should reflect on some of the opinions expressed in previous posting s on this BLOG. Maybe you need to look at you own house before accusing other of making derogatory comments.
    Player Availability
Firstly, have you ever played sport at a representative level? If so, answer me this? Was it always the best team that made it onto the park? I suspect not. There always has been and always will be people who will or won’t make themselves available to play in these games due to injury, work commitments, or even not wanting to play under a certain coach. You are quite ready to put crap on those who didn’t play. Have you asked them why? Maybe the answers might give you a better insight. Shouldn’t you be concentrating on the ones who did play? I don’t know, but I would think that some of the players that made themselves available for the Northern team would find it strange that you are more worried about who didn’t play than those who did!
As far as stacking the side comment, you are really clutching at straws. The team on that day didn’t have any subs for starters, and another player was away for work commitments hence the reason she didn’t play in the Nth v Sth game. So how did you deduce that the team was stacked? Also on this one you need to give credit where credit is due, the following week Launceston United have come out and only lost 1-0 to the 3rd best team in the league. I would say in general that is a great result for the womens game. Closer results. That’s a couple of young/inexperienced teams pushing so called better teams to the wire in the last few weeks. But where’s your mention of that?

  16. Ouch!! It's hot in here!! Not quite sure who is trying to claim the 'morale high ground' but try to remember the (implied) intent of this web blog is (was?) to advance Tasmanian football - women and men. Seems things are getting a little personal and that certainly does nothing for the image of the game.

  20. WOW!! It's great to see that we have more comments than the men! Juan, you had a lot to say in one day, was a good read. Sentinel, this is brilliant. It seems that alot of great things are in place for Womens soccer, but it falls short in many areas. This takes years & much has to be said to attempt to get it right. For what ever reason, this season is the longest I can remember, mainly due to the bad weather conditions & lots of Soccer Players are going stir crazy. Even today more grounds have been closed down by council, it affects our Juniors as well. If the decision is made to close the grounds can the council let the clubs/schools know ASAP and from there, do the right thing & let ALL Coaches know. Last minute decisions Dont Work!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Rascal, Good point The Meander Council provide updates regularly as to ground closures to the Launceston City and Westside Devils Junior clubs committees via email. Maybe if the information is not getting through to other clubs in a more timely manner they should open dialogue with the council in their area.

  23. I am in agreeance with Juan, reschudeling of matches should not occur unless its due to poor weather or ground conditions, in which it is unavaoidable.
The number of rescheduled matches Devonport has had this year is ridiculous. And on more than one occasion, could have been avoided.
Sentinel, I am in now was affiliated with Launceston City SC or anyone involved with it, but have been strongly involved in the NWPL for the past 10 years.
You're reaction to Juan was uncalled for, he is entitled to his opinion, and many of the points he made were very valid and the view of many involved in the NWPL.
As for your comments on the north vs south competition this year...
Yeah, maybe the city girls did not make themselves available, but they were not the only players. It is not compulsory to make yourself available for this competition.
The Northern womens team was poorly coached this year. Girls that only trained once or twice were included in the team, but players that attended every training such as Megan de Bomford and Vanessa Williams were dropped from the team. Vanessa supported the girls, even though she was only an emergency, all day at Aurora Stadium and did not receive so much as a thankyou. 3 defenders in the squad dropped from the team? Sentinel, how your decisions of the final 16 were made is beyond me, and were extremely unfair and biased. Do you honestly believe that out of the squad, 5 plus the 1st emergency were included from Devonport, obviously not based on the skills of the players involved.
The line up on the day was poor, Having dropped 3 defenders the team was always going to struggle, as the best midfielders then had to be put in defensive roles.
I understand it was substitute not interchange but watching the game, the only player that even looked like scoring was Carla McCulloch, and supporters of the northern womens team were appalled when she was subbed off.
Jason Jones coached the womens team last year, as well as the Tasmanian womens team, he did an amazing job, but was fair and wasnt looking to promote himself and his team, unlike this years team that was focussed around Devonport! He should have been given first option for this coaching position!

  25. Your a Nasty Person, do you have hair??
All girls were thanked and emailed. Vanessa also, maybe you should ask her. Is your nose out of joint, I'm figuring you were the one making stupid comments at the game. Do you have all your soccer licenses?? Did you even bother, cause they are compulsory just ask Dale Itchins or have you already contacted him on numerous occasions. Obvioulsly you lost your hair for a reason. Try to be positive not jealous. What a sad person. But we are all smiling in the Football circle.

  27. Couldn't agree more Cons.Constructive criticism with the aim of positive outcomes for Tasmanian football is what we want. Ease up on the personal attacks.
"Rascal" - not really sure of the relevance of your question regarding 'soccer' licences (coaching?). I'll get mine one day soon and hopefully a lifetime of playing can compliment such a qualification. I know one thing - not everyone will agree with my decisions or tactics!

  28. Hey all i trained and played last year and this year for the northern side, i beleive that if chelsea and jill were available to play then yes we would have some more experience & skill which we needed out there at aurora. Jason & Stew are both quality coaches and were both good to play for and train with. I think sometimes everyone has untowards thoughts about city because they are a great team and we are all chasing to knock them off so maybe thats why things get heated and perhaps said with out much thought before typing it. Its without question that south were the better team on that day but i really beleive if we had more striking power up front the result may have been different. north also lost the first round game last year under jason 2-0 so why the appalled comment for this year?? the team on the park may not have been the best but it was all heart and wanting to win as a team, i thought we bonded well as a team and stew did a great job aswell as john as assistant. lets not forget we still have another crack at south in september maybe the key city players would be available then??? im not joking either i played with them last year and we had a good team then. lets not forget hobart also had 5 tasmanian institute of sports girls this year and not last year. there was also injuries this year and girls who got really sick with swine flu oink oink (maybe) i think its great that are a few guys on here that have alot to say finally we are getting some recognition (maybe not the best way) but still its a start. I also think some teams have stepped up this year and starting to close that gap between themselves & city. congrats to devonport for finally putting an end to a long winning streak for city but in saying this well done to city for doing so well for so long.i loook forward to training again soon for the north team and seeing the coach ,assistant coach & managing staff they were excellent and put alot into the team so thanks basically lets all play nice together.
