  1. River 2-1
    Knights 4-0
    Rangers 3-2
    Ulvie 2-1

Rangers and Dev match of the round! It will be a massive match, with both teams needing the win. Whatever happens, I'm sure it will be a close one! Up the mighty Rangers!!!

  2. River & City 1-1
Kinghts & Ltn Utd Pk 4-0
    Burn v Ulv Burn 3-2
Dev & Rang well what can we say game of the round should be tough encounter Dev will find it hard to score against a six man defence Rangers very quick on the counter attack and should get up in a close one 2-1 I might even go and whatch this one.

  3. easy rd to tip this week :
river 3 - city 0 (good young side move ball rd well)
knights 6 - laun utd 0 (counter attack very quickly with pickering and cissee up front good combo)
burnie 2 - ulive 1 ( sit 3rd last but should win at home vs improving ulvie)
devport 3 - rangers 0 ( port played many of these big games over the yrs and allways came out on top , rangers won 1 title in maybe 12 yrs (ressies that is too) )

  4. Different Gers team to past years Red Bull, i cant see them falling away as in previous games, and 3 - 0 is a big call???

I would expect a close tight affair, and have them tied 1 - 1 at the end of the 90 minutes, neither will open up and take risks, it will be cat and mouse affair, unless someone scores early then she could be on.

River has a very good midfield, and City just hasn't performed as i had expected this year, but it will still be close, River 3 - 1 winners

In recent years Burnie always seem to outplay Ulverstone in roster matches, but Ulverstone has improved heaps (or so i have been told), i would expect a very close match, and am tipping a tight and maybe physical (just watch out for walls) 0 - 0 draw

The Knights should win comfortably, 5 - 1 (Greg Duffy to score for United). I still rate the Knights as a great team, but something just doesn't seem to click as it should, and they definitely have a weakness in their armor, but neither Devonport or Rangers have found it so far this year?

PS - Thanks for your thoughts Governess

  5. River will give city a hiding this saturday, both teams enjoy a long ball but river have seemed to've added a dimension to their game this yr. R'side 4-1

Knights under-stength this wkend but should still get the points (can't see Duffy scoring). Not more than a couple of goals in it tho. L'ton keeper MUST be on the improve!??

Dev have looked the goods since R2 and will go to defeat the Gers - posession the key for Rangers (but do they do anything with it??) Dev to score more with fewer opps.

Burnie vs Ulvy, burnie too strong at montello (tipping Ulv to stuggle away from home this yr)

  6. riverside 3-0 city (just too good for city)
knights 7-0 l'ton(should be a thumping but you never know with knights)
dev 2-2 Rangers(dev to score first but then 2 rangers goals and late dev equaliser)
Burnie 1-2 Ulv( Ulvie score first but to concede a goal from set piece but then a late goal to seal a good win)

  8. Yep River wil give City a touch up, too much run and too many scoring options from the windsor park boys, Be interseting to see what "match reports illiterate" has to say about the game afterwards, no doubt attack his clubs coach Sav for not doing what he would have done on Total football manager 97 no doubt?

Knights wont be effected by having a few out and will give launny a tough day out.

Gonna be a fine day at Devonport win lose or draw, they will no doubt have alot of support, and we will travel with our fair share of support this week, hope we can prove you lot wrong, but wouldnt go as far to say we are a shoe in, going to be a good, hard, old fashion tussle to which Im sure they are looking forward to as much as we are. RANGER ARMY!

Burnie and Ulv would also be a good game to watch, Think Burnie just have a few too many missing to match Ulverstone, and I have been quiet impressed by the way Ulvie play their football, should get up in a close one, watch out for 2nd melee in a row for the ulvie boys, few hot heads out there that might clash with burnie in a coastal derby!

Good luck all, hope for no injuries! May the best teams win!

  9. Devonport v Nth Rangers 1-1
    Ulverstone V Burniw 4-0

  10. Easy round to pick hey redbull? The only 2 results I know, you picked wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Im sure you all know but other results were

    Knights 3 def launceston 1
and River 2 defeated City 0 (both penalties)

At the half way point, Everything stays tight in the comp then, with River, Ulvie Somerset, Knights, Rangers and Dev all in good contention for the State Wide spots (top 4), would possibly suggest that City, Burnie and Launny can wave goodbye to anything above 5th!

Good game for Ulverstone!!! thats a pretty impressive win over the emu's. Told you those boys were a good unit!!!

Rangers Dev was a very good game, not sure why FFT sent a southern Ref up for it, although the very nutral position is a good thing for such a big game, but our southern counterparts are just to soft, and I believe the players struggle to adjust to the diference in refereeing. Didnt do a bad job, just felt he could have let the game go a little, might have been 2-all if he had.

    ReplyDelete
  12. ref was bad both ways.both the teams were often laughing at the decsions. but other than stopping every 5 minute's great game.

kenny you've got to stop falling over.haha

    ReplyDelete
  13. Appreciate your advice Toddles!! I won't tell the punters out there what you need to stop doing!!! Funny stuff!!

  14. hahaha.cheers mate.but it wasn't me.

  15. Great game to watch from sidelines! Pretty even, although rangers gave us a few nervous moments late on by opening up the port defence. Couple of good saves Rod to keep things all square.
Surely we'll see TT starting soon, looked very dangerous after coming on.

agree with refereeing coments above, some very soft stuff paid.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great game, bit nerve racking actually! Agree with the ref comments, yep Al I think the great TT is back.

Good to see a decent crowd with both sets of supporters making plenty of noise

  17. Thought I'd do a mid-season review:

Rangers (6-2-0) Would be more than happy with how things are going. Strong competition for places in the team and 5 home games to come including against Devonport see them as favourite for the NPL title.

Devonport (6-1-1) After a horror first match, they have been untroubled by disposing of most teams by 3 or 4 goals. A draw against Rangers at home would have been a setback. Can't afford to slip up before a possible NPL decider at the end of the season.

Knights (5-1-2) Great start to the year by knocking off Devonport and drawing with Rangers, but dropped two games away to Ulverstone & Somerset. Have 6 home games in the run home but their season will be decided in the next two weeks against the top two. Should finish season in the top 4.

Somerset (5-0-3) Would be happy with their position and would need alot to go their way to catch the top two. The Burnie loss could come back to bite them. Should stay in the top 4.

Riverside (4-0-4) Classic mid table position, lost to the 4 teams above them and have beaten the 4 teams below them. Within reach of the Top 4 but would need to improve on their consistency.

Ulverstone (4-0-4) Again similar to Riverside a team that struggles with consistency. On their day they can match anyone in the league. Would go in favourite for their 5 remaining home games so they should be pushing a top 4 spot.

Burnie (2-0-6) A season of what-ifs for the boys at Burnie. Losing 5 of their 6 home games has really put a dent in their season. A postitive is they have been scoring an average of 2 goals a game so they should pick up a few more wins by seasons end.

Lton City (2-0-6) Another disappointing season so far. Yet to win at home from their 4 games. Expect to see an improvement in the second half of the year and should finish with around 5 1/2 wins.

Lton Utd (0-0-8) Would be easy to sink the boot in here but I won't. Their away goal difference of 0-29 from 4 games is terrible so they would like to improve on that. At home things aren't much better but at least they've scored some goals. If a few things go their way they may catch a team on a off day.

Thanks Very Much for this keep up the good work

  19. Interesting now that there is something to play for how everyones season is still alive. Top 4 to stay as is, with Ulvie and River knocking on the door. So if the new state final series were to start this weekend the games would be Rangers v Kingborough, Port v South Hobart both up north. Zebras v Somerset, Glenorchy v prospect down south.

Should be a good run home with some great games

    ReplyDelete
  20. Incentive to finish in top two is home games in finals series - well worth playing for - home gate and no travel costs.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Our thanks must go to the northern presidents for pushing the top four concept. A great move that really benefits our competition and the game in Tas. I know the boys at Ulvie are keen to push up there but must find some consistency also.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Amazed missed the most interesting bit, an incentive not to finish 3 or 4, as you will not get a home gate and therefore cop a huge travel bill, and if you win probably cop another one. No prizes for finishing below 1st on ladder so maybe clubs will tank their last couiple to ensure they don't finish in 3 or 4.
Which coastal club would like to have a $1000 travel bill at the end of the season? for a game with no bearing and little chance of success.
FFT inform me that top of ladder is the Premier and therefore get all the money.
I see little sense in taking 4 teams from each league surely the top 2 should be enough to sort out bragging rights.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Nigel top of each ladder is the NPL and SPL winner, then the top 4 from each league play off for the state championship. So you can finish 4th in you league and still be state champions. ALL clubs were in favour of this at last presidents meeting (positive Peasey was in favour). Adds interest to the comp and would hardly say the carrot of being state champions is meaningless or of no bearing!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hey Twang, did i see that Greg Duffy scored for Launnie:)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Gers Pres, i agree with you mate, top 4 from each end playing off for State Premiership title and Prize Money great, but yes i could be costly if not in top 2, but bl##dy worth it anyway :)

Like you said, it adds interest and gives teams something more to strive too?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Nigel, I think you might need to take a good hard look at yourself before you post again!

That was the most rediculous load of tripe I have read since some of the moronism of the govs forum!!!

If you would rather rais funds than play football, go work for the red cross mate!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ah yes Captain A you are obvoiusly a player from the north, no idea of what us coastal boys have to put up with, get a grip and join a committee and do some fund raising, obvious that you and your club don't have to worry about funds, must be nice!! however if you find it easy then let me know and I'll send you a mail address to send me some down.
Know why we struggle? because we spend double your club on travel, noted that knights used a couple of small hire buses other week must be nice to live in a town that has those, we pay over $550 a day for ours and no grog, everyone leaves at 7am, noted knights buses rolled in and left at differebt times. Trip to Hobart sets us back over a grand so that means that we could be short that much when we go chasing coaches next year. Makes a difference.
And I still say that 3 and 4 have no hope to win a state premiership if they cannot beat the 2 teams above them in their own league they will have no hope so far away from home.

Seems to me that the top four are angling to get an 8 team state league going?
Greedy thing that. I like to see teams and clubs striving to be better, just don't wipe out the base clubs as you build your empire.

Bad Boy, FFT could not confirm prizemoney for State Premiership today! You see thru rose colored glasses, the ones that only see the need to improve level of play. Yet a lot of clubs do not have adequate facilities, 2 playing pitches, enough players to prevent double ups and we still stuggle for officials.
Let alone get enough publicity for our sport.

I will be most interested to see the wash up of this "finals series". It should answer a few questions once and for all.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Chance you are looking at too many negatives. We at Rangers if the players dont cover the bus or close to it, we wont use em! We would then carpool with a few guys chipping in for those who dont have a work car etc so no one is out of pocket. This may be an option for you guys. I for one do understand that distance adds costs to transport (I do work in the logistics business). Assuming that you are a member of a NW club (not sure which one), but there was not one, I repeat not one person at the last presidents meeting that was against this new series (someone please correct me if Im wrong). As for your comments regarding clubs trying to get their own 8 team comp up and going, what a load of tripe. I for one am against a full fedged state comp, for thay very reason, where do the clubs that dont qualify for the state league play, thats right most likley no where, so to throw comments like that around is plain irresponsible. I repeat myself here, an extended final series will add excitment and spice to the year, generate some publicity and bring a meaningful final series to our game.

It amazes me, how ideas get shot down in our game for the sake of petty self interest.

  29. So tell me are Nigel and Chance saying there clubs cant win thiss final from third or fourth to me thats crap and your club should be going out to win this at all costs its a final series and as they say finals is different football forget the travel and do it for the good of the game and im sure you would have some supporters that would go and whatch so theres some money towards the bus or diont you ask your players or spectators to chip in Or does your club pay for it all

    ReplyDelete
  30. They do have a point with costs, especially NW clubs, look at poor Devonport last year, i would hate to think how much their travel bill was, but as you have all said in the past, it is for the betterment of the game, and something for all to look forward too.

However if FFT dont take this seriously, and end up making the final 4 series a joke and dont crown the winner state champion and hand over that prizemoney (as Chance has stated), then maybe we may need to elect a new FFT body, but i am sure that they will honor the stature and payment to the new state premiership team, that is what it is all about?

Maybe we had better get all the club presidents to request in writing hat it is for the State Premiership title and prizemoney?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Michaels email to me last week stated it would replace the old state final play off (1spl v 1 npl). Havent heard a lot re prizemoney, doubt it will be a loss.

I do appreciate the costs however at Rangers its user pays for buses even to the coast, thats how we would run it for a final series as well. We generally cover our costs think bus for us to Hobart is around $700. Made a profit to Devonport last weekend lol

    ReplyDelete
  32. Prize money is quite good for the state title, and would be appreciated by the winning club, it should be followed up for sure? By the way wasn't the deal with Forestry Tas to double all prizemoney, then it becomes a much larger amount and another carrot to play better?

As for buses we charge our players and supporters as well and the club covers the gap, also no bus if not enough on it, same as Gers.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Chance!!!!! or Nigel as I pressume?
Let me address some of your points,

"Ah yes Captain A you are obvoiusly a player from the north, no idea of what us coastal boys have to put up with, get a grip and join a committee and do some fund raising"

= I am secretary of NRFC, and have been on the committee since our clubs inseption back in 1999, in fact I was on the committee long before that in the juniors. I have been, in the past the major driver of fund raisers, and am today responsible for bringing in over 75% of the clubs sponsorship, I have a fair idea on how much it costs to run a club and how hard it is to get money!

Your next load of crap reads -
"obvious that you and your club don't have to worry about funds, must be nice!! however if you find it easy then let me know and I'll send you a mail address to send me some down" -

WE are very lucky if we finsih each year in
the black, but we manage! I think it would be safe to say that we would be the least profitable club in the north!, so I know how hard the $$$$ are to find!

    And your final instalment!

"Know why we struggle? because we spend double your club on travel,"

    - how do you figure??? we travel to the coast 4 times a year, you travel to the north 5 times a year, that is a 20% increase, and far cry from double, granted if you get to the state wide cup and have to go to hobart the price would be higher by say $200, but we havnt played a home SWC game since 2007 so i guess it all works out in the wash, If you are a member of a committee, can I suggest you resign your position, because you are directly affecting your clubs chances of survival and progress!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Come on Captain, keep it cool mate (you might end up hated like me :)).

Everyone has their own views, his may differ from ours, and as chance says FFT may not come up with the prize money as we were all led to believe, at least he has us talking about it, now we need to get a positive answer from FFT.

Is it for the state premiership and does the usual prize money go with it, and is it doubled by Forestry Tas as was told at presentation night, or is it going else where??? We need it in writing, otherwise this may be another big and costly screw up that puts the game back a few more years and not forward as i hope it goes???

PS- Is there a photo from the Ulvie game showing anyone helping Schippers up :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. As for "Chances" statement that 3rd or 4th teams could not win the title? I believe that we were playing or best football late last season (actually had a full team list late in the year), winning the final 4 games (including a very impressive 5 - 0 v Knights), and finished third. Had this been in 2008, I am sue we might have caused a few headaches, and gone close???
