  1. Point 1. I am still a firm believer of a State League competition, as i believe that the standard is slowly dropping off both up here and down south? The FFT idea of a combined club summer state league, is not the answer, we need the old state league revitalized, and if there is a major sponsor out there (as i am told), willing to cover traveling costs, then lets go for it, otherwise we will slowly drop off even further?

Point 2. We desperately need referees, we need ex players to get off their backsides and get involved in the game they all played for so long and enjoyed. We need experienced refs, and in my view that's where they should come from?

Point 3. I have noticed since the demise of the NWSSA, that the overall standard of the youngsters seems to dropping off alarmingly, we get a few good quality players, but then there is a huge gap. Maybe some of the ex-players who cannot take up refereeing, could go back to our grass roots and teach, skill, technique and game sense, afterall, probably most of these players now have kids interested in playing in school / club teams?

Point 4. As for our club we have had huge numbers this year, more than i have ever seen, but our depth is really being stretched this at the moment, with injuries, work commitments and illness, we have 5 senior and 5 reserve players missing this week alone. We have gone from 42 senior, reserve and U/18's on the training track each night, to around 30, and will be traveling to Riverside this week with most of our under's doubling up. Thankfully we had huge numbers to start, otherwise it might be like the old days at Somerset with some playing all 3 games, and most others 2 games each week?

  4. Bad Boy, Some good points here, but some must only apply to the NW, I know from point 3 the NTJSA have never before enjoyed such numbers, and I am told the quality gets stronger and stronger as more athletic youngsters make the switch from aussie rules to round ball with their mates and discover just how good at it they are.

NTJSA rep sides are now winning tournaments which back in my day was largly unheard of.

How do you get older and ex players to coach and put back into the grass roots??? age old question, I dont think you will ever get the support we need, not quality anyhow.

I disagree regarding State league and as long as FFT continue to run that opperation as They are at present, it will never happen!!! WE must learn to crawl before we walk again, and I still believe the secret lives in a Revamped state wide cup.

    My thoughts on this are.
Work on the planed Final four State cup series at the conclusion of the season. For some unknown reason, FFT wont put their foot down and declare this bloody great idea is going ahead!!! its right on so many levels, we all want that finals footy fever that Aussie rules enjoys at the end of the year(this gives you that!) We all want something to play for long into the season once the premiership is out of reach! (this provides that!) The good clubs want to play state wide, THIS PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY) 1st north plays 4th south, vic versa and 2nd north plays 3rd south and vice versa, higher team gets home ground ad, knock out, 8 becomes 4 decides the final decides the State Champion!!!!!!!! why wouldnt you want to play in that? Northern and Southern leagues have their individual premiers and everyone who made top four has the chance to gain the state mantel!

Alternatively, two state wide cups next year, a champions league style format for the top four from north and south comps from year before.

Home and away series, 2 group stage of 4 teams per group drawn at random,

top two from each progress during the year to the home and away semis and a home and away final!

Remining teams in the state to battle for the knock out vase title.

Means a few breaks in the year for extra games but season can go on a little longer im sure.

If this survives, fair indicator that we are ready to make the next step, rather than throwing it out for all to strugle and survive or die and knock us back to the stone ages!

If you are to progress to a state league, do we announce it a year in advance and rule that the top four finshes for the year in the north and south are in, the rest stay behind and play a division one comp? the norther leagye would almost certainly not make it past two seasons!!!

    Any way, thats my points!

  5. On a side note, I take an exact quote from the Launceston City offical web site regarding their match against Devonport on Saturday arvo, in which NRFC attended as paying spectators.

"And on a personal note, I can’t wait for Devonport to face Rangers in a couple of weeks, as yet again their drunken supporters, proved what a rude bunch they are, yelling abuse to the Devonport players all match. Will they ever learn?
    Alex Brownlie
    Match reports independent"

I notice after a letter from our President MArk Ackerly, that the comments have since been removed, rightly so.

Can I put in an open forum the truth from this slanderous rant!

Around 10 to 12 Rangers players were in attendance, all paid their fees at the gate, NONE had anything to drink, either brought with them ( I think we have all learnt our lessons now) nor purchased at the bar. To the best of my knowledge, not a drop of grog was consumed by one of the players at any point at Mitsubishi park.

Secondly, if we were abusive to anyone, and "abusive" is a fairly losely used term here, it was toward Chris Hill who snapped a flag pole in half in a rather amusing sequence of events.

As paying spectators in an out door enviroment, are we not aloud to cheer jeer and look for a reaction in the players on the park with some well directed and natured sledging, or should we behave as if we were watching a well thought out game of chess? If you cant handle the heat, get out of the fire!!!

Before you go and make Defamatory remarks on behalf of your club in an official capacity, please get your facts straight!!!

We couldnt have sledged Devonport even if we wanted to, they didnt slip up once, it was a very impressive and polished performance! you should count yourself lucky it wasnt worse for you mob Alex Brownlie
    Match reports illiterate?

  6. CA - I agree that the final 4 series from both Premier Leagues this year is a great idea, hopefully we can get into the top 4 and have some fun:) It is a great step towards a revitalized and hopefully less expensive state league, that isn't that far away, you are right, we need to see if this works first before we try the real thing though?

As for the decline in quality of juniors, yes i am talking NW, and probably mainly the WSSA end, us and Burnie need to get back to grass roots, not at U/16 or U/18 level, but from U/8's onwards? We have some fantastic juniors, then many who dont understand the game, mainly because of having poor old mum and dads coaching, while ex-players, head off to golf etc???

As for your guys attending other matches, we really enjoyed the extra noise when we played our best match last year against the Knights, i think you guys may have brought out the best in a few that day? Your guys are always welcome at our matches, especially if we can get results like that:)

  7. CA,

I too read the 'Match reports independant' game review on City's website and I thought it was quite bizarre!!

I was approached by a former City player in the clubrooms after the game and his words to me were 'did you hear them Ranger blokes having a go at you and your team all game'. After he said that to me I mentioned it to my wife who said it was Bulls..t. She was parked a few spots away from you guys and said there was no drama and nothing much was said at all (and nobody on the turps!!). I personally didn't hear anything from Rangers while playing the game but as a player if you worry about what's going on on the sideline you make yourself an easy target.

As for having a go at Chris Hill, my opinion is that it was more than warranted!! I guarantee that he got more stick on the field than off it!! As mentioned earlier, he is one that makes himself an easy target & his game clearly suffers.

To me there is nothing worse that idiots on the gas watching a game and abusing players, officials, other supporters etc. No doubt it happens but I'm 100% certain that it didn't occur as claimed on Saturday night at City's ground.

  8. Another great topic put up by this blog, and so many progressive ideas put forward by so few (at this stage)After being invilved with AFL for past decade or more, then coming back to this great game, it suprised me that while the standard at the top level as improved immensely the game as not .
For the game to grow in this State we need that intrastate competition/rivalry whether Final Four,Extra Cups State wide summer cups, N West North Southern Conferences
or all,Talk needs to be turned into action, its obvious you the players want it!!! we need clubs to fight for it.
For me its a team or Two to play in either Vic Premier League or Similar give our Kids coming through something to really aim for everything revolves around finance I know,I believe aim for the best, and see were it takes you.
One thing though don't forget the girls there game is the fastest growing sport in the world at present.

  9. i think it's great for the game having players / supporters from other clubs coming to games to watch, whether drunk / sober, quiet / rowdy...the thing our league lacks most weeks is any sort of atmosphere...

i reckon that if ppl on the sidelines are giving you a pasting it makes you lift as a player...i personally loved heading up to shark park and playing at home against burnie because their supporters are so vocal...and know good soccer (for the most part!)

as for playing at city...they have no idea! and kenny don't get me started on chris hill...would've thought that the son of a man that has played a lot of football in quality sides would have some semblance of 'soccer smarts'! i laughed my arse off when i heard he broke the corner lag last wk! and today he abused the ref in the 75th / 80th min and was sent off...laughable!

  10. As a coach of 2 young teams (under 7's and Under 10's) and a current player I find it beyond stupidity that the ntjsa will not give preference for any junior teams to play early games. This makes it impossible for me to play soccer and coach. So I have to choose between coaching and playing. This year I have given up on playing and chosen to commit to my kids and coach. If the ntjsa wants coaches who know a little bit about the game to coach I'm sure they could give this concession atleast. I'm sure they are discouraging current players from giving back to the game through coaching.

  11. Mclovin, been same both ends for years, but you have made the right choice, look after the kids and teach them the right way, well done:)

  12. Some really good points here. To me the biggest ongoing concern is the severe lack of referees, that sadly is only going to get worse as time goes by. I work with one of these blokes (like most of them he's over 60) and he was so sick last week that he could hardly walk - yet he still got out of bed on Saturday and ref'd a premier league game.
Heard nothing from the Northern Rangers Supporters all day (except one of them asked me to wave to him at some point - disgracefull eh!)To be honest I thought our own Social league players and women's team were the most vocal at the game. Very strange comment by Mr Brownlie.

  13. Although I agree in primcipal with the concept of a full state league, I fear that the introduction of this will mark the end for a number of clubs up North of the "Mason Dixon Line". If say the top 4 clubs (or 4 clubs) are taken out of the NPL, where do the remaining 5 clubs play. A 5 team NPL would not be viable I would have thought. Maybe you could make the NPL seniors and say unders 21s (or u19s), however this would place a burden on already struggling committees and most likely split squads etc.

I think we need for the nxt few years, to get this 4 v 4 state finals series going, to add some excitment to the leagues and would be a great promotion for the game locally. I cant believe this has not been officially brought up with the southern clubs yet,as it was our understanding when it was raised by FFT and agreed to by the Northern Presidents that they were going to be canvassed on the subject straight away. It will be interesting to see what they say I could not think of any reason why they would not want to run with this concept.

A footnote to this, is that any final series needs to be meaningful eg winners are state champions. Otherwise clubs will not take it seriously. We should have an naswer from the SPL clubs this week

    ReplyDelete
  14. Gers Pres- You are kidding aren't you? Surely the final 4 from north and south has been approved already? You must be joking that the southern clubs haven't met yet.

WHY DO WE BOTHER STAYING WITH FFT???

Why dont we go back to the healthy (and wealthy) northern body, massively reduce our ever escalating costs and develop our game from grass roots onwards, as FFT is supposed to be doing (how long since we have had a state coaching and development officer)?

Maybe FFA need to take a good look at football in this state (oh I forgot they only worry about collecting money from us all to fund Aussie teams).

We were very financial before the old Soccer Federation made us bail out the Southerners, who were broke (maybe actually bankrupt???), surely we could go it alone again and enjoy a cheaper sport, even set up our own "Northern Institute of Sport", so the elite do not have to move to the big smoke to play for our state - gee we could even form Country Tasmanian squads to participate so they dont miss out?

Even entice ex-players back to ref with higher payments from our massive savings???

Now I am being a "Bad Boy" :)

  15. Na kev, they havent, asked Peasey if you dont believe me. Southern clubs have not been canvassed about the proposed combined state final series. Not sure why, however I hear it will happen this week. Stay tuned!

    ReplyDelete
  16. you blokes are bloody whingers.

Southern presidents meeting was last night! - 5 days after northern meeting. This blog isnt the official communication system!

Kev - you are always hard done by!! - unbelievable!! Just do the bloody courses like everyone else!!

FFA are partly the reason we have no C&D mgr - they have altered the role and insist on having a say on who gets the position - with their rep not being freely available its been bloody hard to progress! But you dont care about details!!

By all means go it alone Kev - not sanctioned by FFT means not sanctioned by FFA means NO REPS from north /north west for anything!!

    Some people are really clever!!

  17. Amazed get back in your box. 6 months ago FFT said they would canvas the SPL clubs re the the north v soth final series. Would have thought that this would have been a fairly important matter to bring up in a timely manner.

I think you will find that kev is stirring the pot and getting the bite he wanted, well done champ!

Amazed since you have all the knowledge what happened at last nights presidents meeting in the centre piece of Tasmanian football???

    ReplyDelete
  18. A typical response from you amazed, very easy to work out who you are:)

Gee, is hat how i get your attention and get things done? Why have i always helped and backed up you guys (especially you) in the past and got no-where???

What was the outcome, oh so knowledgeable one?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Amazed - on the subject of doing the courses, gee, now let me think who has tried to set them up for past 15 - 20 years (Bad Boy of course, but brick walls hard to knock down, or is that Cambelltown)?

Who was instrumental in setting up the senior license appraisals with David Smith this year, the courses that were never completed last year with FFT (Bad Boy of course). Even when i couldn't make it due to major leg/knee operations (was offered RPL, by previous C&D, but he has gone, hasn't he, and you guys couldn't give one)? Just a selfish gorilla i am, not like you down there mate???

As for leg, yeah great, thanks for asking, as I said at the time, it looks as if it has finished my career - just holding on until club can find a replacement (but I will be back with juniors again in a few years I hope)?

Come on, someone down there get there job done right, just to show that it isn't that hard, please? I thought that the new look gang would have made a huge difference by now?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I understand that the final four north/south was agreed to at last nights meeting of Southern presidents.

  21. I really hope that you are right Football devotee, we need it, especially with the early start and playing Easter to allow for it???

  22. Just to let you all know, I have resigned as Sharks coach due to my ongoing problems and operations with my right knee/leg, and the fact that I am still off work, and am not recovering from the latest operation quick enough.

Tonight Nick Reed was appointed as the Sharks Senior and Club coach for the remainder of this season, congrats "big fella". I for one believe that he will do a great job, and the guys will back him all the way, so watch out for those teeth guys:)

  26. From the FFT website:

    Local FFT Roster Changes
The date of the A-League Pre Season game was not known when FFT
rosters were published (in fact it was anticipated the game would be one
week earlier). Roster changes will be made to free up as much of the
weekend as possible to give all football enthusiasts the opportunity to attend
the A-League Pre Season game. In general, games scheduled for 25th/26th
July will be swapped with 18th/19th July as this was rostered as a “Cup”
round. Games that cannot be easily moved will be rescheduled to later in the
year. Clubs will be notified shortly of proposed changes.

  27. I know you were probably asked to remove the email you posted RP but the format is probably the one everyone expected.

    1st Nth v 4th Sth
    2nd Nth v 3rd Sth
