  3. good spread of games in the first week,

Reckon River City will be a classic game, either a draw or just to City if all their players a fit and ready.

Ulvie should make light work of the set.

Burnie get the other bye with a practice game attached.

Rangers V Knights? who knows, will be fun though!

  4. my tips for the week:

    River 2-0.
    Ulvie 4-1.
    Burnie 12-0.
    Rangers 1-0.

pretty good week of games to start off with. Will be interesting to see if pre season form counts for anything when the real stuff starts.

  6. I would expect River to start their season with a win, otherwise any premiership hopes may already be gone? River 3 - 0.

Not sure on the Sharks line up, but I think from what I hear and have also read on this site that maybe several missing this week, cant afford that? Unfortunately I now think Ulvie 1 - 0, sorry guys.

If the real Burnie turn up like last week and decide to go for the jugular, I would expect nothing less than an 8 - 0 win, maybe Launnie can play a 10 man defense and hold out?

Now that Rangers are down a few players from last year and Prospect have young Duffy and several others, I am tipping another really close and fiercely fought match, with Knights winning 2 - 0, starting the year on a high.

I am expecting a really tight tussle at the top of the ladder, with only a point and percentage between the first four, so this will probably upset a few but here goes. My tips for the 2010 season in order are as follows:

    Prospect
    Devonport
    Burnie
    Riverside
    Rangers
    Ulverstone
    Somerset
    City
    Launceston

  8. riverside to take the points easily from an imploding city.(brownlie a footballer, hill a knight).ulverstone too good for somerset.burnie too everything for launceston, and the knights to get up against the rangers.best of luck to everyone competing and stay injury free.

  10. Surely after Launy Utd lost 13 nil today their tenure in the main flight is gone? It is a farce on our league for a side that is equivalant to an old social league side, how can they hijack a position in the NPL? Surley at the end of the season FFT will need to consider their future.

We are surprised by the results between River v City / Somerset v Ulverstone. Would have thought that Ulvie and River would have won easily. Is there truth to the rumour that Brownlie (Ginger Ninja) has gone to AFL?

As for the comments re; Knights as championship contenders- from what i hear the reigning champs pulled their pants down and gave them a right spanking.

  11. agree with lonnie unfortunately its not a one off been getting smashed for years with no end in sight for them.

knights were very ordinary dont know how many players they have got to come back in but hopefully for them one of them is a gk.

  12. brownlie is gone for now an probably for the year. differences with the coach apparently. any1 on here from river? city apparently unlucky but that is from one of there boys so?

  13. Sounds like Somerset are going to have a reasonable year, close game with Ulvie, and they have had reasonable games all preseason bar the last, might just wing it. Pretty much Burnie and River games going to plan, Rangers played well for the win, but Innis would have made it dar more interesting. Not seen so many clangers since I pulled on the gloves!!! Far out, find him a hole!

What the heck is going on with Kurt Renolds? sent three guys packing so far, who wil be next?

I too heard City had Rivers measure all day, any truth? I expect River to be right in the mix all year.

  15. I attended a Northern League clubs meeting back in the late 90's when River stood up and said that Somerset were an embarrassment to the league because they got thrashed each week and should be kicked out, Just 6 years later they won their first state premiership! Most smaller clubs will ebb and flow, they need our support, not our attacks. Our league needs another team not one less,Oh and don't be surprised if Burnie get a few more scores like this they have a quality attack capable of doing this most weeks.

Sharks could have beaten Ulvie they had some clear chances to score, Ulvies goals both penalties the first very soft.
If the Reds are better than all the Lonnie clubs as shown by Hudson Cup then there is hope for the Sharks to get top 4 yet!

  16. don't know about that nigel... ulverstone had most of the chances, we could of scored 4 or 5 in the second half..

    ReplyDelete
  17. Congratulations to Launceston Utd on fielding a strong winning Under 18 Team, with the full amount of subs. They could well be the future of this club and L U need encouragement not criticism. Nigel is spot on

  18. Well, all the hype i had heard about Knights and bang, murdered first game (should Captain Australia could swap clubs and boost the Knights). Way to go the Gers, great effort.

Maybe City will still be a force, as i really rate River, good to see they have started the season with a win?

Burnie will continue to win, if they bring their "A" game each week.

As for Sharks and Ulvie, watched this match, it was a fairly even game, and Sharks could have had two before Ulvie started to get in the game. Wasn't the best standard (terrible pitch didnt help either), but was close all day, would think that both will need to improve heaps on today's effort to play any part in final series???

  19. somerset sharks = long ball from casey eaves their only dangerous play. if ulvie took their chances they would've flogged em

    ReplyDelete
  20. agree with bad boy, both teans will have to improve to be a part in the finals series but as for ulvestone flogging us i disagee, both goals from penalties the first being very very soft only other dangerous shot ulvie had hit the post, for a supposedly top[ team this year i didnt think they were that great

    ReplyDelete
  21. Surprisingly Ulvie and Sharks can't agree on who should have won!! Despite the debate score says Ulvy won (all three games). Maybe luck went with them but there's been plenty against them over the years. Whether they can mount a sustained challenge for the top four remains to be seen - still lots of question marks - but a win is a win. Congratulations - reward for hard work and effort.

  22. Ulvie = kick it to Brayden hope he scores or gets a pen. If som took it's chances would of won comfortly. Would of been five all if both teams tools it's chances. First half all somerset with ulvys only shot of note the penalty. Second half ulvy were the better team apart from the last ten where somerset were trying to nick a point. End of the day ulvy won but somerset can take a lot from the game with ulvy being a ( top four team)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ulverstone are a POTENTIAL top four team - they are not (and haven't been for a while) a current top four team. There is a lot of difference between potential and fact that only seasons' end can determine. Ulverstone should be happy with the win over a team that has been enjoying success for a few years now. But they know that there's a lot more work to be done before they can claim any success.

  24. agree with you david score says your boys won all 3 was only saying that altho you won i wouldnt say you deserved to flog us thats all, but on a different note the under 18's you have looked like a very good future prospect for the club knocked the ball round well i thort.

    ReplyDelete
  25. firstly, if a club in the north can put 27 blokes on a pitch each week and a full compliment of under 18s, they deserve to play in npl as long as we dont have a structure where there are two divisions, and we all know that wont happen in the next 20 years. tas football needs more clubs not less. rangers were beaten 14-2 by launceston in our first ever game, it will come right, but will need loyal clubmen, unlike the lot that deserted them in their hour of need this year. obvious it wont happen this and probaly not next, but at least they are moving in the right direction, if it wernt for them the launceston clubs would have no preseason cup, and there would be 100-200 juniors with out a path way. Oprah, you need to think beyond cutting people off at the knees!

Orlando, Chris Hill is moving back over the fence to Knights I hear on good auth, plus one of the life changing imports packed up and went home after receiving a free holiday to the apple isl!

Sure we all could have scored more goals in every game we ever played! but if you didnt, too bad, and sounds like that was it for the sharks! why bother argueing? At least Ulvie have a striker who can score goals from anywhere! even if he gets a few penalties!

Dont worry about knights, that will be there worst effort for the year, plenty coming back for them, and Huddo wont let it happen again. might not give the premiership much of a shake, but they will still give yas all a tough day out!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Unless one of the "ins" for the knights is a goalie then I see them being a bottom 4 team this year. Not sure why Innis was on the bench and where was their gk from last year?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey guys, lets all get it straight? Ulvie had more chances, even if only half chances, they won and that's it, but the good thing is that both will be competitive, but need to improve heaps to be a major threat, very ordinary game? Sorry guys from both teams, tried hard, but wasn't a great game (still blame the worse pitch in recent history for that)

    ReplyDelete
  28. dont forget its the 1st game guys, so we cant expect top play yet. and stinger, you summed up a striker, because dont all smart strikers get the ball and if they cant score they try to earn a penalty

    ReplyDelete
  29. agree with you bad boy, end of day they won so congrats to them, but yes how bad is the beach (pitch) that we have to play on dont worry about boots up there just need some thongs or flippers if its raining lol

    ReplyDelete
  30. dont rite off lonnie united this season they have some good young players down there and a good mix of older players all its ganna take is time for the young players to gel and they will do ok,as for this week riverside will have to work for the points keeper leith mitchell is back and the side would be looking for him to show the way.
