  1. Where is everyone?
1st round and pre season so coaches no doubt trialing a few possibles, also 2 new coaches will be keen to begin.
Tips- Ulvie will be depth tested against what i hear is a weakened Port lineup. Ulvie the big improvers this year 2-0
Sharks rebuilding and Burnie recruiting well should see Emus get up 3-1.

  2. Any early picks for the top 4 this year?
Only Sharks and Lonnie seem to be behind the pack at this stage. This leaves 7 to fight it out, should be interesting.
    Any thoughts from Northern supporters?

  3. lton city seem to be gathering a very strong squad together.they have alredy had two imports arrive ,and i believe there are two more irish fellas arriving next week.add to that the return from injury of alex brownlie, and the prodical sons michael beechy and anthony macri and they dont look like last years team.then there are my boys who i hope will be a much stonger threat than last year.

  4. Results from Montello
    Devonport 8 v Ulverstone 2
Port seniors including McKenna over a basically Reds Ressies team. Pitch and weather excellent a good fast game.
    Somerset 4 v Burnie 1
A strong Burnie lineup iincluding Chris Smith seemed out of ideas against a determined Sharks. Sharks young ones played very well and deserved the points today.
Port v Sharks next week will be good.

  5. Reds Ressies? Who wasn't playing for them? Obviously Brayden Mann...Ben Foote, Adrian Beard if he is playing as well...who else?

  6. we didnt have chris smith (ulv goalkeeper) which meant a guy who hadnt kept in 15 years and had only trained once or twice was put in between the sticks. but we also had a couple of young first gamers that hadn't even played a game of under 18's, let alone a full game against a full strength dev side. but still, thats no excuse and hopefully we'll bounce back today.

  7. All I can say Nigel is that true..Burnie was pathetic but had at least 5 missing from the first team. That is no excuse though.Burnie did not play soccer and I am happy for them to see this now than later in the league. They lacked cohesion and no system whatsoever and seems to me they need a bench coach as well. However it could be that the red shirts excited the sharks.....wrong color perhaps.
Having said all this congrats to your boys for a very good effort.
The other game was all Devonport and the score was very representative.Ulvie had some players missing but so did Devonport.
    HOWEVER EARLY DAYS.

  8. Hi Logan,
5 missing? No doubt Ash Smith will walk back in and K Johnson was on bench, but who else?, heard Pete Van Ek is fit again but doubt he will break back in unless someone drops out.
I rated Burnie (see my earlier post) and 9 of starting would walk into any senior squad.
Like what Sam's trying to do but Burnie just didn't seem interested, think Ash Smith will make a huge difference when he's back.
Thought Somerset's youngsters did really well, for 6 it was their first senior start up from Unders.
Unfortunately Sharks have only 2 to come in so may struggle at stages this year.

  9. Hey all
Some strange results from the start of the 1st rd of the nw cup!!!!
Somerset over Burnie at Burnie, from all the pre season talk i was to think burnie was strong and Somerset week this year .
Are ulverstone putting there ressies in the NW cup ??
And sen in the steve hudson cup ???
Is this disrespecting the nw cup or just good management from ulive given all there players game time ??
    Your thoughts people ???

  10. from what I've seen (from the steve hudson) I think that's the case red bull. Definately the core (if not all) of their senior team playing the hudson cup.

  11. dont think you can call it disrespect of the North West League.

ulvie are to be congratulated for being in both comps, shows the great hunger for success the club is persuring.

Looks like 2010 is shaping up as one of the best seasons for a while. going to be tight right the way through the comp with City getting their act together again, Knights and Burnie getting strong sides, Ulvie were always going to be a top side this year providing they stayed together, and by all reports Rangers and Devonport coming back to the pack some what. River look like a simililar side too, which will be a handful for whoever plays them during the year. Might be the year you can lose 4 games and cop a couple of draws and still end up champions! Pretty sure it will be the final round before we know who will be crowned!

  12. Predictions this week at Somerset BUT after last week I know why I don't have a TAB account!!
Burnie should bounce back to give the Reds a touch up. The Reds showed plenty of heart but Burnie is full of quality players and should win.
Sharks and Port will be hard to pick especially if Shark's young ones step up again.
    Port's experience should win out.
Somerset women take on the Ulverstone women at 1.30 on the spare ground, having seen both teams it should be a close match.
Hope a few get up for the opening of the new sheds at 12 noon. A good chance to get a look through before the players take over.

  13. Burnie 3 - 1 Ulvestone - Burnie will be disappointed with last weeks game no doubt and should win easily with Ulvestone playing in both pre-season comps.
Somerset 2 - 1 Devonport - tipping Somerset based on they'll go in underdogs again and no doubt will want to win their first game in new changerooms and sing that song, no doubt am sure all teams will like the new facilities after the previos tho lol Somersets young guys will need to fire for them to win and Mckenna as devonport main threat

  14. Its a good thing we have a blog otherwise we wouldn't hear anything about soccer on the coast.
Why ? is there nothing in the paper about our Knockout Cup?????
Hard to attract a sponsor if there is no publicity.
Does anyone know who is doing the Advocate writeups this year?

  15. Good question Nigel...You must be aware how much money F.T slugs the clubs to put teams on the ground and apart from a roster we get nothing much else in return on this part of the state. In other words our clubs are here for fleecing only.About time the clubs start asking the hard questions.

  16. Heard that Burnie beat ulverstone 3-1 and
Devonport was leading Somerset 4-0 at half time.
Perhaps Nigel may fill us in with the games and final results.

  17. Burnie 3-1 over Reds, didn't see a lot of the game.
Port 4-2 over Sharks after 4-0 half time.
Sharks never in the first half but played strongly in the second to get 2 back.
Very hot conditions, Port goals to Kenny, Cam Douglas, Chilla and an own goal , while Bobby and Jimmy got the Sharks.
Big turn up for opening of change rooms.
    A top day.
Somerset women 2-0 over Reds in practise match.

  18. well done to the sharks on the new facility. very nice. pitch condition looked like the only downfall but no doubt a work in progress. only stayed for bout 20 minutes in second game, both teams looked like they're blooding the kids which is great. first game scrappy, burnie could be strong this year if they start to gel. Ulverstone didn't look too good but early days and all teams probably with players to come in.
hope standard continues to rise & burnies drink prices fall ($3.20 for coke too much)!!
is there games this long weekend up on coast or at newstead, just starting to get a taste for it!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sorry Jesse's Girl no games on the coast this weekend, don't know about Lonnie.
Agree it's to expensive to drink at montello but council operate bar and take profit as they did the gate, disappointing that it was $6 as most spectators only go for the one game. This is operated under Burnie Sports and Events,
Thought it was only $4 last year a much better price.
Gate was free at Sharks last Saturday as so many invited guests a bit unfair to charge. Hope they all bought a raffle ticket to support the club.

  20. Jesse's girl,
Obviously you are no good at wearing a mask trying to in a way tell us that you are new to the game and yet without realizing you betray yourself. You are a Shark supporter and you should be proud of it[as I am sure you are]However you either are very biased or know very little about the game if you tell me that the first game was crap and the first 20 minutes you saw of the second game was sort of marvelous.Come on lady/gent
be fair and objective and next time you are at Montello buy your coke at the canteen[run by the club]instead of the luxury of the bar[it may then cost you less than half of the price you paid].
Nigel I agree with the rest of your comments but perhaps you should advise your members that Burnie United is a rival competitor in football and not the taliban.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sorry Logan, don't understand "taliban" note, does this refer to last saturday as i saw very little of the first game?
Interesting if you refer to supporter comments, boot is on other foot as we used to cop heaps at Montello when Burnie beat us so often. Now there is so few Burnie supporters at home games, sharks outnumbered your lot 4 to 1 in first round. Expect some of your own back for a while, but I agree Match Managers need to stomp out nasty stuff, passion is great but should never be personal or abusive.

  22. I learnt something on here last season, don’t bother arguing or even posting something remotely controversial, as people will attack at every opportunity, and wont see a valid point against them if it smacked them in the chops! Haven’t even started the season and your at each other, save it for the sidelines and lets get some constructive comments.

  23. Nigel my old friend...you have got it all wrong once again.I was not referring to anything you are talking about as I was not at any of the games>However I may be wasting my time trying to explain except to tell you that working with politicians did not help you much and you jump to conclusions.Have a good week.

  24. Boys, It seems to me if you have something to say then make it understandable, Captain I'm not here to have a go at anyone, seems i'm too thick for this blog as i continue to misunderstand or be misunderstood when I express my thoughts incorrectly, so probably just best that I read all about soccer in the newspapers.
Logan your taliban comment was crap, explain or withdraw.

    That way I will
