The North / North West Blog Is Back tell us your thoughts on how we can make this better for you to read information on the season for 2011

  1. Nice to have you back from the dead Governess.

I think to stay relevant you need to regularly have new articles/topics and update posts daily.

It's important we have some electronic coverage of the game because the 3 Tasmanian papers treat the game with contempt, despite the best efforts of the dedicated reporters. Some fat guy in country footy gets more column inches than all of our games combined...Match reports would also attract the interest of people from all clubs, and hopefully some (mature) comments!

I know there is a lot of negativity about the status of the game here, but if you consider that hockey's participation numbers are small compared to ours, and yet they are very well represented nationally, it shows what we could achieve if we (ever) get our house in order.

Blogs like this that get the football community together are an important step in the right direction.

Hopefully we can put aside club loyalties for the good of the game.

  3. I am with Adam on this - lets work at getting the Northern game on the map by good things here on the Gov Blog. YES have fun have a dig etc but leave the the personal stuff alone AND stick your name to it - then WE can do something for the greater good of the game in the North.

Would like to see match reports from each Club for each Div. I know we cannot all attend all games - even at our own Clubs.
But would make for interesting reading.
1 nominated person from each Club even to provide their Club report?
and Gov - how about changing the new 'LOGO' so that TAS is more prominant than the 'other' island LOL

  4. Any news on coaches for 2011,
Sharks have lost Jimmy Nettleton and appointed John Wheeler on a 3 year contract, and re appointed Ian Cowan to the womens.
Burnie have lost Sam Cocks and are advertising for senior and womens this week,
Ulvie have lost Kim Rigby and promoted their Ressies coach and I imagine Charlie Vella is still womens,
Port have lost Tom McGinn but I haven't heard about a replacement.
    Whats happening up North?

  5. Nigel, Walter has taken a keen interest in the North all of a sudden, not quiet sure why, but he has confirmed that Tom is at Dev!! good news re John wheeler, will be interesting to see how it all pans out for you. you say you have lost Jimmy? left the club or stopped coaching and still playing? not that I believe he will be too hard to replace if what im hearing on the grape vine is true!

  6. Terrible News...just got home from a week in Melb Hospital to hear that we have lost Jason Best in the car accident at Latrobe.
Jason had just joined the Sharks committee to be part of the new Junior Programme for next year. after nearly 15 years of a debilitating illness Jason had got well enough to be part of the soccer community again.
He was on his day as a player one of the best centre forwards that I have seen over my nearly 40 years of senior soccer, he was a great goal scorer and had he remained fit would have slotted nicely into a senior team.
He leaves 4 great kids, a lad who started with our Unders last year and a daughter who began with our womens, both wonderful people and really good players to boot.
Too young at 38, he will be sadly missed by all the Coastal clubs, especially Burnie and Somerset where he played.

  7. My thoughts/prayers go out to his family and friends, always sad to lose someone close to you, but even harder when they are so young!

  8. I agree with you nigel. I remember playing against Besty at junior & senior levels. Very fast, goalscoring striker. I had wondered where he had got to, a shame that he had to stop playing due to illness. It is also a shame that he wasn't able to continue with his coaching role as I'm sure he would have been a great role model for the kids. 38 is way too young, only 2 years younger than myself. Makes you stop & think about your own life and not take anything for granted. Deepest heartfelt sympathy to his wife & children.
