  5. having recently taken over the duties of writing the column for mark baker while he's in South Africa I've realised just how difficult it is for coaches to get full strength sides out on the pitch. It would've been great to see a full strength burnie side all year as they would have had a real shot at the title!
Gers appear fairly settled and now really look the goods to go on with it. I don't think devonport will trouble rangers in the return leg in the last round if rangers still hold the premiership lead and will be strong enough for atleast a draw. I think the gers will face the toughest test against Burnie and riverside...and the rest of us can only hope they can knock them off.

Good luck to all sides in the S'Wide Cup

  6. i very much agree with your comments twang, injuries, unavailabilities and suspensions certainly unsettle teams.knights as you are aware suffered badly from this yesterday. not wanting in this comment to take anything away from the sharks but with six players out due to reasons im glad we didnt come up against a devonport or rangers

  7. Beckham, i heard that sharks came home well after conceding 3 early goals, Bobby back into defense and tightened up the slow, leaky ship? Sharks also had 4 or 5 regulars out, so both sides well undermanned, but must have been an exciting finish? Disagree with you both, as Devonport still title contenders, as are Knights, and if River finish the season off like last couple of years, then they may just pip them all, but Rangers in the box seat, and its up to them to take it or not?

  8. Bad boy i think dev are still a huge chance of winning because they rarely drop points to lower teams BUT they just don't seem to be able to strike the killer blow against rangers like I THINK Burnie and river can.

  9. Agree Twang, they dont seem as strong as in past years, but if Burnie and River take points from Gers as you believe, then Devonport might just fall over line? Too close to call as nothing between top 4 teams and any slip ups can cost someone a title, all will need to be at full strength and playing CONSISTENTLY at their best to win this years title?

  10. Going to be tight finish, possibly as tight as its been for many years, though I think it was 08 around round 6 completion, Knights on 15 points, Followed by Burnie on 13 Dev on 12 And rangers on 10, and Dev ran away with it hardly challenged in the second half of the year. second half can often be completely different to the first, and I think Burnie and River will shape the final standings,

Rangers Dev and River I reckon are the ones who will fight it out, Have heard it said the best defense will win the title this year, and having seen the first half come and go, I completely agree with that statement.

Knights may struggle without Baker and Innis for a month, Pinocchio wont have the desired effect, they easily could have gone further but didnt seem to get prepared in time this year.

Burnie will be the other team to shape the final standings, they may just lament some ill discipline in the first half which has cost them any chance now, but can make it difficult on those above them,

Ulvie have just not quiet got what it takes and may miss the finals by the barest of margins again this year,

Somerset should be proud of what they have achieved with such a loss of talent over the last couple of years, regardless of the rest of the results, they will finish 7th.

City committee must be punching themselves in the face every time they sit on the loo! Give the Div 1 team a run one Saturday and see if that helps? worked in the past!

Launny, well how long can one team go on with out singing the club song, they must be doing something right though, as they keep fielding 5 teams with ease every week, kids must have think skin over there!

    So my odds Kev,

    Rangers $1.80
    Dev $1.90
    River $2.40
    Knights $4.00
    Ulverstone $7.00
    Burnie $30.00

Intersted to see your odds on the George Dale Kev!!!

  11. Sorry Captain, haven't seen enough games to comment on that award, and besides the refs see things way differently to me on most occasions, but now that Duffy is out injured :)I guess Toddles must be in the mix again, and if goals count, then young Brayden might poll well, and Rivers Hughes boys should be known by Refs now, Chris Smith would have polled well but had red card, and Devonport been just a team effort, so anyone's guess??? Who is your tip?

As for Sharks, well youngster Aaron Moores should just about take our B&F out from Bobby and Wellsy, he is a really good player in the making, and should go on with it now?

  12. for me tittle is a 2 horse race between dev and rangers, dev is in my oopinion the most consistent team over te last 4 years by a long shot and rangers also with knights and river to make up the top 4, and as for sharks b&f aaron should win by a country mile and andy keegan 2nd with casey eaves the roughie

  13. Capt aus - who is this "pinocchio" you refer to?

And bad boy - that was my thinking that if burnie and river can take points off the gers then dev are a real chance of winning the league. but if not and it does come down to the last match, head to head i think gers will be too strong.

Huge match for knights next wk against river with the loser really having no chance of taking the title and river in great form!

B+F's way off too boys...and who cares!

  14. I believe the little man made of wood just wanted to be a real boy, asked a few people if they could help him achieve that, 3 clubs have failed, I dont think Knights will be able to help either, but there is always Riverside after you lot! does that help?
I am also not interested in B and F, but would like to hear who is the early tip for G. Dale, Hingston is my tip hands down, not because he is a Ranger, because he is in great from to date!

  15. i can only think of our new keeper?? I haven't met him because i was away from the club all last week due to illness but he seems like a fairly talented kid who i hear left city because he felt that he wasn't being coached (at all!) and didn't feel like he was improving / going to improve - I'm not gunna blame him for that...i gather he has played elsewhere and not sure why he left other clubs...i'm a one club man and don't understand leaving a club without good reason...

as for G. Dale...it's very hard to get a read on the form of players from other clubs when we only see them twice/year don't you think???

    ReplyDelete
  16. Im all for a young kid wanting to improve, and if that means changing clubs then so be it!

It always annoys me that all clubs are happy to actively recruit players from other clubs, but the moment one leaves them the player gets sledged!

Luckily this hasn't happened to me with my move from port to knights and back again, but I hear it happening all the time! As long as their reason is genuine then is there a problem??

  17. well said all the way from South Africa!

  18. Do you have any problems telling opposition coaches to get F'd when they are checking on your well being Al?

Harry, pinocchio is a good kid, but we do enjoy stiring him up, he will be handy for you lot while Innis is away, but Im with you, one club, id rather sit on the bench and be loyal, than move around insearch of glory, your time always comes if you are patient. Most people respect that too.

  19. Hardly anyone moves around clubs in Lonnie anyway, very few in fact. Most of the players who have come to Rangers over the years have been guys like Funky, Bremner and Toddy who have moved town.

A few have left Lonnie over the past few seasons as I guess they get sick of being spanked. However generally players are loyal to their first club.

  20. after being informed of what the first sentence of captain australia's last post meant, eadie you need to get off the high horse bloke and pull that head in. shambles form really.

    ReplyDelete
  21. hahaha, not sure what that has to do with players moving clubs todd and CA? Little bit of topic maybe!

Not having a crack at anyone, or on a high horse. just putting my opinion forward on the subject that had developed re players moving. Im sure some disagree with me!

as for your question CA, I do have a problem with it, and as u would know, A hasty appology was made as soon as i relised your coach wasn't taking the piss out of me! He assured me he understood my fustration at yet another injury and appology was accepted! Players get frustrated, these things happen. End of issue I would have thought!
