  7. The new clean green environmentally free image in Hobart worked wonders for Burnie Utd. Down in numbers without A.Gibson, J De Bomford, M Ambrose
Ka Johnson all missing from the line up. Exposure
to different match officials for a change could have helped. The coastal teams see-sawed when two home bred youngsters returned to haunt the sharks with their parts, in well deserved victory. One goal coming from a thirteen year old student.

  8. Congratulations to the 3 Northern winning teams, Devonport, Riverside and Burnie, great wins by all 3 clubs and best of luck in future cup matches.

However the "big three" Southern clubs in South, Zebra's and Clarence all had good victories against three of our Premiership contenders and the struggling Sharks were beaten by an impressive young TIS team, which leads me into our leagues position in the state at the moment.

I believe that I have seen our standard fall dramatically over recent years and even though cup games are not a true indication of where we are, due to players being unavailable etc, we really need to take steps to improve our standard in the north of the state, as it seems we are being left behind again?

I know some clubs are very active with junior development, but maybe all clubs should be more involved with junior bodies and rep teams by setting up academies or similar skill programs and develop our youngsters at an early high school age group to ensure we stay competitive with the south now and in future years.

Best results for clubs may be achieved if we were to utilise senior players and even current coaching staff, thus also improving our own players skills and understanding as we educate the younger players? I have always found that if you teach someone a skill, you also improve yours?

Sunday skill sessions with senior players would allow them to run off stiffness, allow them to put something back into the game, benefit the up and coming talented youngsters and more than likely increase Saturday gates, what do you guys think?

  9. Kev, I didnt even read you tripe past the opening lines, and refuse to do so, even now as I write, I am not in any small way compelled to do so, Rather have a good hard look at yourself.

    here are the facts

Knights were beaten by a lone goal by the cup holders in Clarence.

Rangers beaten by 2 goals by the undisputed team of teams in Tas at present, with all talent going there to play under ken, could have easily got ourselves level, didnt take our chances, we hold our heads High, and I think if you speak to someone from south, they will tell you, we gave them one hell of a game and they had to work hard for the win. Lost the second goal looking for an equaliser, we can beat them, and you can wait until the State Champ series to eat the normal crap humble pie I serve to you!

Ulvie well beaten, happens sometimes, they will finsih the year well, cant hold it against them when they had a 4 hour drive to get there.

Dont know if you mentioned that our 6th placed northern side beat their only title contender in Glenorchy, and River did what they always do, beat Southern Teams of any quality on Windsor park, oh yeah, and DEvonport posted the rounds biggest win and it was over a southern team 5-0!!!!!

Northern PRemier LEague may not be perfect, but its a good comp, anyone from 1st to 6th could still win it and all bar Sharks and LAunny will be a chance for the top four, not that open in the south

We also have the last 2 north V south crowns if im not mistaken?

All that with little input from FFT in the north, sorry Mike you are turning a corner ill give you that!

Sorry if im being harsh, but a fair go for the north from one of our own please.

  10. Agree with the Captain on this one Kev, like he says south should be able to beat most if not all teams by at least 5 with the players, coaches and imports they get down on paper so think rangers did a dam great job would be interesting to know what their coach is paid when compared to souths with out the players that south fly in for games, like he said all teams up here are capable and i still believe that the north is just as equal if not better than the southern league as shown by our 6th placed team beating their 2nd place. upsets will happen and teams will lose games that should be won.

  11. Misunderstood my post captain. Maybe you should read it, pushing senior players into skills sessions with future players to improve our standard not that bad a statement???

We have several good results in cup games, but from matches i have seen and what i hear about several southern teams, overall our league has dropped off a bit (even you guys have lost a few from last year, but still a top 2 team?). Just wanting clubs to start developing more northern superstars and get more kids from up our way into state teams, TIS and maybe come back and strengthen our league again?

Sharks lost to kids team, Ulvie thrashed, Knights lost by 2 goals in previous post, as did you guys (might have been close games, which is great), but we dont seem to be improving as much as a couple of the southern clubs, head up that's all???

Southern won Cup final last year, as well as top 4 playoffs, to me means we have dropped back a bit, just a prompt for us to keep eye on it?

Thanks for the "harsh" reply :)

  12. Kev how I see it, apart from South Hobart and Zebras there isnt much between any of the sides in the north or south (standard aside). South Hobart have players missing out, who would start in any other team in the state and yet are content to sit and watch on weekends. Why someone would do this in what is essentially an amateur league is unbelievable but anyway each their own. TD makes a good point Ken Morton is a professional coach the rest bar the TIS guy (correct me if hes not fulltime) are past players etc coaching in an amateur for the love of the game and in some cases their clubs. I agree we need to develop our young players and clubs need to proactive in this hopefully it will come around.

I personally dont believe our league is that bad and for the first time is a fair dinkum comp with everyone bar Lonnie United able to take points off each other at the moment. we have 9 southern teams get through to the last 16 and 7 northern teams so only Lonnie and City didnt get through. Of these Rangers lost to the best team in tassie, Ulive to a classy Zebras outfit, Knights lost by a goal to last years state cup and championship winners, and maybe Somerset should have done a bit better against the TIS especially at Cardigan Street but in the end those kids are techincally very good.

The last two north v south campaigns have shown that the best 15 from the North are equal to the best 15 in the South, however obviously with a smaller demographic it is always going to be hard for us to compete club for club. I think all the Northern clubs can hold their heads high, and goodluck to those who are left.

  13. I agree Pres, the majority of Northern clubs had great games, close losses or some fantastic wins, and they were only 'cup' games, where many players are unavailable? My main point was to get ALL clubs involved in better developing juniors, keep our depth strong and our standard high for future years.

My aim wasn't too bag or criticize our league (our standard was on the way up in recent years), but a possible remedy, or a way to improve current players as well as future stars, to ensure we improve our standard?

The idea that I floated was to have senior players coaching youth on Sundays, to me it has merit and should benefit everyone concerned? When passing on skills as a player you tweak or develop your own as well as gaining a better understanding of the game, so all should benefit?

I am not having a go at those who lost in last weeks cup games, or not intending too, sorry if it was taken that way?

Basically I feel we aren't improving (sorry but that's my opinion), maybe its the same in the South, but I have seen a game down there this year, and it was better standard than the couple of games (close, hard fought), I witnessed up here?

Most or our northern clubs state that they have lost several players from last year, yet still remain in contender positions, doesn't this indicate that the middle or lower position clubs either haven't improved or were way behind in the past few years?

Gee the Sharks have lost eight of the State Premiership team from three years ago, yet have three wins and a close loss from six matches, unexpected by me, and a credit to Jimmy and those who are playing now, but it doesn't mean our standard is improving does it?

  14. Yeah your idea kev re getting senior players involved with juniors is a good one. We at rangers always try to run clinics with our kids where we can and where time allows. For us not sure if Sundays would work, people have lives and I doubt if we would get a heap down at the club on a sunday. Hard enough to get em there early enough on Saturdays to help out at home games. However it isnt a bad idea at all and has merit. I agree the more exposure kids have to current senior players the more likely they are to show up at NPL games and more importantly play on after they reach 15.

  15. I cant think of many clubs who dont have connections with junior players on the coast i can only speak for somerset but i no we are involved heavily at ground level with one senior player coaching more than 15 local school teams alone and thats just him let alone the numerous others that i no do, if you come to the club on any wednesday there are over 50 kids running around getting taught skills by players but having said that it takes time for them to develop into senior players, not to mention that most who want to chase higher dreams are forced to relocate to hobart for the TIS and we lose out, sharks should have doen a lot better but in the end a well disciplined team took the points on the day, i'd say rather than the negative loss of ours if your worreid about the quality of junior soccer then that 1 result is a big plus for northern players as i from that team there were 3 local guys that i new of if not more,

  16. Yes agree Tyler, young Eli and Jessie were the great young coastal players in that TIS team (doubt if we will see them on the coast playing in coming years, much better than most)?

Also agree that Bobby and co doing great job with locals as you say at shark park, but need more senior players to assist with young players, especially rep teams. Not all clubs or majority of players putting enough time and effort in, been a thorn in our game for years (at every club)?

One day, we all may regret it, but while a few do the good work we will continue to survive?
