  1. Wow...what a week! I've been thinking about nothing else except this saturday all week!!! Should be some excellent numbers at NTCA this week, with what looks like being a cracker of a game between two quality sides. Essentially a grandfinal...Devonport only need a draw, but really doubt that will be the result as both teams will be throwing everything at it!!! Whatever the result, I'm sure the game will be played in excellent spirit as both teams respect one another, and don't shy away from the end of game brewski and chat. Good luck to both teams, I hope to see you all there! I won't bother tipping....

    Lets go you Rangers!!!

  3. Mr President
i think that you are misleading us by saying that Devonport only need a draw to win the league.you seem to be a clever man but your figures may need some improvement. If the game ends up in a draw then the port need to win against Burnie and despite the year's results you cannot take it for granted.
If burnie have a full side they will account for Ulverstone, the Knights for my Launie and Riverside for City.
So,my dear friend ..if you draw on Saturday I am sure I will see you at Devonport on the one after to watch a good game.
Have not heqard much from the shark boys lately...any problem?Suggest you stick to your local boys in future and not on a one year imports.

  4. Spot of jealousy there Logan.
Not much to talk about re Sharks, dismal end to the year.
There are many of our "local boys" that have to move to Lonnie, Hobart, Canberra and Adelaide for Uni and work. Next year we will lose at least 2 seniors to Hobart and probably 2 Unders as well, so with the Hobart boys moving on in their studies maybe we could do some recruiting from Lonnie teams?
Meanwhile we will have to find at least 5 maybe 7 new senior regulars as 2 or 3 others have hinted retirement due to age, maybe Stevie Wright will go again he only turned 50 last week!

Very Very rare for players to move into the area so when they do it's on for young and old between us and Burnie to sign them. Remember Crosswell? We missed him.

Nothing much else to add except as I predicted at the start of the year, Rangers cannot go all the way, but in closing, best team I saw all year was Devonport closely followed by Olympic, if only they could start the year without dropping games they would be a chance.
Look out in the finals, I know i said that 3rd or 4th couldn't make it but Olympic will give it a big shake.
Knights are pretenders, showed nothing against sharks and will go out early in finals.
    How did they get 3rd!!

  5. Bonus with the "imports" is the effect on the younger players in the club, they see some new ideas. Down side is that few imports embrace the club and its ethos, they know they are leaving and I feel sorry that they do not enjoy the benefits of club membership.
    Their loss!

  6. No reason for jealousy Nigel.Just stating some facts that may apply to other clubs as well. You do in fact have a problem of young talent movements in the NW and Ulverstone could have a taste of that next year I understand. And where do most of them go?Launie or Hobart?
Have not seen my friend Red Bull either on this forum lately to tell me how they are going to beat shit out of Burnie...come on red bull I can take it and laugh with you as long as Burnie wins.

  7. Tipping Devonport 1 - 0 if the rain continues and the ground is really boggy, hopefully the conditions dont spoil the spectacle (the best two teams all year).
River should beat City, especially with their super strong midfield, but have struggled to score on occasions against quality keeping, so will tip 1 - 0 as well?
I have heard that a couple of Burnie's best are playing the other code with Ridgley, so maybe a depleted Burnie may struggle against Ulverstone, so I am tipping a tight 3 -2 Ulvie victory.
Knights should use this game against Launceston as a tune up to regain some of the early season form before the finals, tipping a 5 - 1 win (Duffy to score for Launnie)
    :)

  8. "Nothing much else to add except as I predicted at the start of the year, Rangers cannot go all the way" Hmmm and you're talking about jealousy? If we win on saturday, then your prediction is wrong, and even if we dont win...we did a bloody good job being in the position we are! Credit where credit is due....As for knights, while I'm not a huge fan, they DID beat devonport twice this year, so...perhaps not the most consistant team, but one that can match the rest of them on their day!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Been a very interesting year when you look at some of the "doubles" brought up, Prospect beating Dev twice, Burnie the double over the Sharks and Ulv beating knights twice. Consistency might have been an issue for some but I think it's more to do with most teams being capable on their day. Onto this weekend, Rangers and Devonport will draw nil all, Olympic will steamroll City 6-0, Ulverstone sending some players off apparently (news to me) will account for B.United and Prospect should beat united fairly well. Been a long year for some but overall a pretty enjoyable one, good luck to all.

  10. Have to agree with the Gibble Cock here Nigel, Foot in mouth on the way is my prediction!

Knights draw with Rangers and defeat dev not once but twice and once by 6 goals to 0! and you have the skin to call them pretenders. the only pretenders my freind was somerset unfortunatly, Only team to talk the talk and finish outside the 4! (no disrespect to guys like Cocks and alike) Think you lot need to stop making excuses and Join Craig Macey in getting stuck into fixing the problems! How can you get stuck into guys like Johnny, Roachy and George for to quote
"not to embrace the club and its ethos" and "they know they are leaving and I feel sorry that they do not enjoy the benefits of club membership"

No other club has had this problem, and I point out Burnie with Croswell (He loved it up there) and our fly buys such as Bremner, Gerraint Williams, Chris Gaskin, and many many more, once these people join the club, they generally regard themselves a Ranger for life, no matter where they end up, so I suggest you have alook at what the club is doing wrong, rather than having a crack at class players who have had no problems at other clubs!

Its not so rare for players to move up that end of the state either, just need your committee to have their ear on the ground, and Ithink you find more than the abundent 3 this season alone find themselves on the North west, unfortunatly,i dont think you will get glowing reports for the moment as a club to go and have a look at!

  11. you do call a spade a spade Captain, but you generally you hit the nail on the head.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ah Capt. one of the few who can get me going..what would you know about how the hobart boys treated the club this year?
Cannot remember you at training, games or social functions?
As usual blowing hot air about something you know nothing about.
I don't recall me making any great suggestions about the Sharks chances this year, in fact my only prediction was Rangers wouldn't go all the way, that one we have to wait for.
Love to know how Burnie and us missed any players over the past 3 years as Burnie's only recruits this year were 2 "local lads" from Somerset.
If you fly boys think they will be Rangers for life then what happens at the next 3 clubs they go to? Strikers for life? Knights for life? Get real.
Oh and just so you are aware of how poorly we operate, we have between 40 and upto 70 players, members and supporters stay in the clubhouse EVERY Thursday night, after training, during the season, all local people of course who enjoy great fellowship and raise the odd $100 to $200 each week.
This year we will finish many thousands of dollars in the black despite the ongoing costs for the extensions and new ground lighting.
No loans, just all paid for by this struggling club.
I can send you the formula if you would like to see what we are doing wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Now Captain, having said all that I do wish you and the boys all the best on Saturday, your club has done well and deserves to be in the running, as a coaster I am no lover of the Port but they have a huge advantage in location and population and have a top coach who has them playing well.
I doubt Burnie can back up another striking performance so you need to win this week.
If you do then send me the date of your dinner so i can be there.
I'll be the one with the target on his arse.

    ReplyDelete
  14. shall do, just make sure you bring that formula!!!

  15. Had a dream last night (or was it a nightmare..) that Rangers won the game this week 4-1.

Not sure why I was thinking about soccer as there are far better things to think about at 3am. I've got a fairly good track record at this stuff so I thought i'd let you all know

  16. Hey Gremlin, can you give me 6 numbers for Saturday Night?
    Good luck to both teams.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi Gremlin..
I think being that time of the night I would say you were dreaming of g.o.l.f and it took you 4 shots to find the one hole!!!! I do have the same problem sometimes especially at that hour.Good luck.

  18. Nigel - just get those damn changerooms upgraded! My dream before retirement is to have a decent shower at Cardy Street! And what are the plans for the picture in the visiting changerooms (circa 1971)? Club heirloom or eBay item?

    ReplyDelete
  19. gotta say im no fan of the changeroom situation at shark park.in fact it may be that they could be said to be unhygenic.sad to hear that the boys from hobart didnt become part of the culture, but i could see that early in the season when they opted to go back south when time off allowed,no opinion on that either ,just the way it was for them. capt ive played in some pretty fair teams way back then, and i know what it is that you are talking about in regard to bonding .i just dont understand your need to be so judgemental.it may be as ive been reminded previously just taking the piss ,however gibbles for me said it better (while im not a huge fan ) he was speaking of another club claims the right to then promote his own.good luck this weekend not a huge devonport fan,so i guess im on rangers side this week.and from there reds by a few, river by about the same and then nigel, the pretenders by more than two and will finish above fifth on the ladder.

  20. Relax Becks, Me and Nige have a love hate relationship, its mostly piss take, with a little light hearted jab to the throat from time to time, nothing a good old beer cant wash over everytime we cross paths, though Sharks beers did taste like rubbish last time I was there!

Any way, as I have been so often reminded, when you open you mouth on here, someone is rught there to shut it, or most of the posters when it comes to twang. Nige had a dig, so I returned with a dug! you know tit for tat!! im going to bead to see if I can get that 4-1 dream going gremlim speaks of!

  21. No worries Dave, should be ready for next year, unfortunately our council has no money, spends it all on footy and cricket!, so we have to do it ourselves, eg we put drainage on both grounds in past 2 years only we had to pay $7,500 to council for them to do it! Just paid $2000 for gravel for car park!.
How ever I agree with Becks old showers must be past use by date they were built before second world war!
Your Taj Mahal looks impresssive can you get a penthouse sponsors box looking west?
Night Night Captain, beware it doesn't turn into a 1-0 last minute loss via a penalty with you in goals!

  22. Soooooo excited!!! It's D-Day boys!!!

  23. Captain and Nigel, re- the Hobart boys not enjoying their time with the Sharks. George loves it that much he is trying to stay up here, but Jonny and Tom were really broke (I even helped them out with registrations) and they were home sick from the start, its hard coming fom the "big smoke" to a little place like this, with no or very little night life, away from family and friends? Anyway I hope that they all learn from their experience, good or bad, as I hope some of the players and supporters learn how to make "new blood" feel comfortable and fit in?

As for 2010, the Sharks will really struggle, with 2 of our best youngsters heading off to Hobart for Uni, along with Tom and Jonny, then Casey talking of joining Nick and Steve in retirement, Danny and another talking of Interstate or overseas travel, and the rumours of a couple heading to Burnie. so sadly this will only leave a couple of this years team for 2010? Looks like we need to rebuild again and rise from the basement again?

  24. congrats to Rangers...fully deserved and looked the goods when I saw them in Steve Hudson, managed to finish off what they started.
    Well done to you all

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, well. Congrats to Capt and the club, nice to have a different name on the cup!
No doubt will get a match summary soon.
Now where did i put that padding?

  26. Congratulations to Ros and all the Northern Rangers players involved - a well deserved WIN.

  27. hungover....so so hungover! was it worth it? hell yes it was!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Congratulations to Rangers for their achievements over a reasonably short history.Sorry I missed the game due to having to work.Must have been a cracker. So, when you all recover from your celebrations you may tell us all about it.Personally I thought the Port would make it even with a draw but this is why the game is interesting.
Have been told that Burnie lost to Ulvie 3-2 with the winning goal a penalty few minutes from the end.Burnie won the u/18 and reserves and with the seniors having 4 players out of their usual line-up and game could have got either way,I say, once again That the emus never lay down their arms...Look out for next season.
Bad Boy you are clear as crystal and looks like having too much money in the bank[as Nigel says] does not necessarily make a good club for players to stay when the senior coach has to fork out of his own pocket for registrations.Do the Sharks still stand for statewide league? with situation and costs changing all the time?

  29. Logan

Ulvy underestimated the United spirit in the first half of the game with a 2-1 scoreline at halftime in United's favour. After a bit of a reminder from the coach at halftime Ulvy came out and did the business and deserved the win. It doesn't matter who is in those black and yellow shirts - the United spirit always shows through.
The win was a fair result and good reward for the Ulvy squad (including coaching staff) for an improved season.
Well done to Rangers - solid and consistent throughout 2009.

  30. Logan, As you would know that a club's aspirations change with each President/committee that takes charge. Some push for premierships as priority, some push for club stability, some for junior development.
Beauty of this blog is that you get individual thoughts, Not necessarily, and rarely, those of the clubs.
Having experienced being part of State League once before I know that a club must have a strong player group, dedicated to travel. A strong financial position, as players and staff are paid, with several usually signing professional contracts.
And of course a President and committee commited to making it all happen.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Very well described Nigel but from memory I thought professional contracts are not valid in Tasmania as every player is a free agent at the end of the season... OR has the rule changed?

David, they tell me you are spot on as Ulvie had the better part in the second half and it was an exciting game with both teams missing good chances.Well done to your boys for all the improvement in the team.Credit also to your committee and coaching staff for the patience and determination over the last few years and hope you do not lose any of your young players to the port as was evident in previous years.

You are a good man and a good administrator and you could do better than enter into personal vilificatios.Let us have the better part of the game with the occasional fun or shit stirring as it is better known.
Congratulations once again for winning the league.
Jessie you are tops and have been around for as long as I can remember and enjoyed when you and Bert met on opposite sides.I am sure your constructive contribution would be appreciated by all.

  36. congrats to all associated with the deserved victory at the weekend giving you this years northern/north west league title. Hope your celebrations have not impaired your abilities for this weekend and that you are able to return an important trophy to the north/north west league. Captain, I think I did say to you try not to be so judgemental because everyone will not be so happy to just accept...just taking the piss! because as you can now see that Mrs McKay gave you an oppourtunity to back away but you responded Jessie who the dickens are you when I for one understood who you meant, and it seems that Logan did too. Appologies can sometimes be accepted. Oughta try it!

Launceston City would also like to thank all the ladies in the North West who took time out to make them “something to eat” after the game. You did a great job!! Thanks Ladies

  46. I promised myself that I would not go into this Web Site again because all everyone seems to do is “bag” each other about their Club. Surely we can do better. At no time have I noticed anyone being concerned about the Insurance Cover. My grandson received an injury preseason which meant he had to have a total knee reconstruction. He had no private health insurance but because of the severity of his injury he had to admit himself to a Private Hospital costing him over $6000.00. He received approximately $1500.00 from Insurance. We must lobby FFT to get us a better insurance. I know that there are players who will say that the Club should pay the balance. However, the cost of registering players and nominating teams is so great that most Clubs are cash strapped. It is also interesting to note that your insurance ceases at the end of October and does not commence until February. That being the case some players are training without insurance.

Secondly, lets put our effort into writing to the Newspapers to get more coverage. It is disgusting the small write up we get every week.

Come on guys lets try to do something positive.!!!!

  47. Jesse Insuracne from FFT runs Oct-sept each season I think you will find so you have year round cover
