  1. Massive game between PK and River, River can close the gap on the top four and put pressure on PK and the sharks with a win and are in pretty handy form after pushing T. Zebras all the way in the cup. Too important for PK...
    Knights 3-1

Ulvy way too good for lonny, might not score too many though. Bad Boy - your boy Duffy, can he score again??? Unlikely i'd say...
    Ulv 4-0

Burnie a tough team to pick! But should be too good against City. I have no idea what those guys are doing across the ditch but for a club that claims to have a "youth policy" they lined up against us looking more like a team of retirees.??? Perhaps the old boys just play against us...can anyone shed any light???
    Burnie 2-0

Sharks due to get some form together and rating them a huge chance to knock the Rangers over. Can't wait to hear what Captain Aus has to write on the Toyota website after a loss, considering he has to make up rubbish after a win (it's ok to write that teams can create chances against your beloved Gers!!)
Sharks 4-2 (wish i could come have a look!)

  2. Olympic are tuff stuff but cannot go 90 minutes so Knights to win 3-1

City good at home and if Burnie only take their B game then City to win 2-1

Ulvie best out of the four so Lonnie to lose 6-0 especially if young Braydon plays, quality kid that.

Rangers are having a stellar year with luck and results going their way, Sharks finding some form, heart says Sharks 3-1.

  3. Rangers/Somerset will be a huge game, with all the chasing pack hoping for a somerset win. I don't really know what you're talking about twang, Capt Aus just tells it as HE sees it. If he gets it wrong, it's not him being bias, just the way he sees it. Considering that NRFC is one of the only teams that has a website with regular reports, I don't think many people can complain about what goes onto it. If you see it another way, It'd be nice to see your opinion on your teams website (Is there one?) Onto my tips -

Prospect Knights 2-1 Should be a close one, with Riverside nearly getting a result in the cup, and Knights losing to a Rangers under 23 team. Knights to get a few of their better players back though?
Ulverstone 4-0 Should walk it in easily!
Burnie United 2-1 City needs to keep to their youth system, and not play their older "retired" players. They'll come out ok, but Burnie should be buoyed by it's nice win over somerset a couple weeks back.
Northern Rangers 2-1 Always tight between these two teams, with a nice friendly rivalry. Shouldn't be more than a couple goals in it. Good luck both teams (just a little more luck to Rangers)

See you somerset boys sat! good luck to all teams, and lets hope we have an injury free week!

  4. Burnie only seem to lift for Sharks games, if Ray could find that in the guys every week, then they would be pushing for the top couple of spots? City (when they play the younger guys) are a up and coming outfit, and as they dont wear blue and white, I will pick them 2 - 1 over Burnie.
River has a great midfield, but i still rate Knights, so Knights 4 - 2.
Ulverstone 3 - 1 over United, and yes Duffy to score again :)
Last year was the first time that the Sharks had ever beaten the Gers on their home turf, so it will be a tough ask as we are not as strong defensively, but i will go for a 1 - 0 Sharks win to make the last few games very interesting:)

  5. I await Capt Australia's response twang...lol

  6. Prospect V Riverside should be a pretty close one going on results lately. Apart from the cup games last week, both teams have been going well. 2 all draw, player from each team sent off.

Ulvy really needs a positive victory to get its goal difference up which is way down on others. 4 nil.

Launceston City v Burnie is there for the taking for burnie if the right team turns up. Over the years Burnie have got some good results against City and i think they can do it again. 2-1

Rangers v Somerset is another intriguing game for the round. Somersets method of play may not suit against rangers who stay fairly compact through the defence and midfield sitting blokes behind the ball. Will be pretty tough for somerset to break down as it has for most teams so far this season. I'm tipping a 1 nil victory to rangers, Ambrose in great form.

  8. gettin a bit precious aren't you snobbles5! mate i know you play in the 2's for the top side in both comps (take nothing away from your club) but when sitting on top of course you're going to cop some banter...harden up! Your website: good on you for it, but not sure if you realise but once its on the net it is in the public domain and people (whether it offends you or not) are going have opinions about its content. as for airing my opinion on games, that's what i'm doing...on here (not sure but i think that's the idea!!!) as for capt aus, i know he's going to write what he thinks...good on him for it, but maybe he should revisit the tape - namely the first 15mins where Knights had a one-on-one and 2 shots from inside 12yards blown over the bar. If that means the Gers were "rarely under pressure" then i'm not here! And as for waiting for a response from capt aus - Rangers Pres - i think thats what your mate snobbles5 should've done too...pretty sure he can stand up for what he writes. enough said (from me) Go Sharks!

  9. Seems a tight round this week, Olympic to dent Knights armour 3-1, Somerset to burst Rangers bubble 4-2, Burnie will belt City 5-1 and the Reds to struggle against an improving Blues 2-1.

Can anyone catch Rangers?, lets hope that Somerset give us an opportunity.

  10. Tips,
People have said Riverside are the most underrated side in the comp, and I tend to agree with those statments, think they may supprise Knights this week.

Ulvie to give Launceston no chance!

Ray parke needs to give the faithful of montello another win to back up a great effort v sharks, this is the week to do it! Burnie

Rangers v shark will be won or lost by the team that defends the best I would say, a balls up in the back line may just decide this one, hope its not ours, Rangers by a goal! RANGER ARMY

As for comments regarding my reports! I write it as I see it, and apart from a shot from point blank range that when blazing wide and high, I didnt see to much else that bothered me. Video highlights that go up on mr Video's site will prove me wrong or right! and i dont edit them, just provide the raw footage!

Harry! if you dont like it, guess thats too bad for you and me! its your right to join the other 800,400 hits on the site from last calender year, and its your right to hold an opinion, at the end of the day I could care less! just as long as people keep visiting www.northernrangers.com im happy. last years 34,000 first time users means the site is serving a perpose!

When I spoke highly of you in the week prior I heard no complaints! you can always post a less bias report on the Prospect Knights web site? is trout still holding up the bar? must get along to that dutch auction too! I have been pretty critical of the club on there in the past, and now we have some good news, I'd like to inform our supporters of this. would welcome any further feed back in person!

  11. Some people have too much time on their hands with the amount of rubbish they post on forums.
I do laugh at the so called 'personal' attacks some people get into. Why bother! After all, it is only Tasmanian soccer.

  12. Donk, there's no doubt that what you do on your website is leading the way. it's good for your club and the game and i enjoy reading it...but you're going to write it how 'you' see it...and so am i.

As for speaking highly of me...(i'm guessing you mean on your site, unfortunately i didn't read it because i was on holiday) i guess that flies in the face of what you think you know about soccer because i struggle to get a kick from week to week!

  13. meander Valley Council have shut both Prospect grounds so no Knights v River or City v Burnie tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  14. Precious? No twang, just telling you what I thought...just as you told me what you thought. Why are your opinions "ok" and mine are precious? Anyway, looks like you can come cheer on Somerset on saturday, and give the Rangers some gate money, since your game is cancelled. Be happy to have a beer with you after the game harry!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Must be really wet in Launceston to cancel two games already?

How wet is NTCA guys, hopefully not too boggy in middle cricket area, pity to spoil a "big" game with both teams being good on ball coupled with great passing, maybe CA is right and a defensive error might decide it???

Just a gentle note to those at each others throats - remember, everyone is entitled to their opinion, even CA :)

Shano, yes it is only Tasmanian soccer, but it is our "Premier League" and we all have a forum to put our ideas and thoughts? Keep it coming, otherwise it gets too boring :)

Lets hope the rain has finished until 5pm tomorrow?

  16. i dont mind getting on here to read some purposeful narrative ,however self adulation would sell anyone short.give em heaps harry.hope the boys from somerset breathe some life into it this weekend ,if not well done rangers ,i suppose ill get used to it.

  17. snibbles, did you know that a bias does just this. IT EFFECTS THE WAY YOU SEE THINGS.

  18. See you all tomorrow. (and yes, I'll be wearing my red, white and blue glasses!)

  19. Havnt seen the middle bad boy, but it will look pretty much as you imagine it after 2 minutes of the Unders. Nothing you can do about it this time of year in this weather! thought ground staff did a fine job to get it through the game against Knights, the following rains gave it no chance for this week, the beauty of the surface is the rest of the ground holds up ok. With the ammount of rain we have had, its no wonder meander closed the grounds, it would have ruined them for the rest of the year!

Shano, give your self an upper cut, I could bet my houseon the fact you are, or did play for the only club that would still tolerate senior players on the piss the night before a game!!!! Like BB says, "its our premier league" not our social comp!

  21. Well done sharks, deserved the win. look forward to the cup leg now! Woodenespooner, I think I will ban you from our forums now!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yep, agreed the Sharks derserved the 3 points on the weekend, both sides smashed it out in very poor conditions. As always played in great spirit!

    ReplyDelete
  23. This week seems straight forward enough but I will predict an upset with Olympic to dent Rangers title hopes with a hard fought 1-1 draw.
Devonport will beat Ulverstone, close 2-1
Burnie will be hard at home, sorry Lonnie 5-0
Somerset should beat City after 2 pretty good weeks but they seem a bit short on numbers so closer than you think 2-1
Lets hope that The Reds will take a point off Port and open the premiership race right up.

  24. I believe the league is at an important juncture. The talk of State League is premature.
I would like to raise a few points for discussion and consideration.

The Presidents or club reps should meet regularly to discuss the many ongoing issues such as FFT, Junior Development, Referees, Press and sponsorship. The current northern clubs meet adhoc.
There should be at least a 5 year plan for the league if not a 10 year plan.
There is virtually nothing being done about training our coaches, yet this was identified several years ago as one of the leagues major issues.

Many clubs still have inadequate facilities, these require considerable club funds and manpower to fix, eg; Olympic, Burnie, Lonnie United still share showers, those 3 along with Somerset and City have miserable change rooms, old, small, dark or dirty. Devonport and Ulverstone have miniscule rooms for visiting teams. I first played at Lonnie United in the very early ‘70s and other than hot water in the showers nothing has changed!
Some clubs change strips are inadequate and most clubs, despite this being a winter sport, do not have undercover viewing areas and very few allow for TV coverage.
We talk of playing the Women on the same day yet very few clubs can cater for 4 teams getting changed at on time.

It is interesting to note that none of the current presidents were part of their clubs operations when the previous state league ran, I don’t think that they understand the huge financial burden that it creates, I would think that a club would need to be turning an $8000 profit this and every year in the Northern League, to be financially ready to go into a State League. Remember State League means costs like paying players and paying travel money. Current presidents should be hosting a forum with the club personnel who were involved in the past state league to look at the pitfalls, and finding a way to avoid them. I would suggest that people like Peter Best, Rudi Compagne, Stewart McCarrow? etc be invited into theses discussions.

I am not against a State League, I believe it should be a goal that all clubs should strive for, however in 2009 most clubs and indeed the League, are a long way from being prepared for it.

Let’s spend the next 5 years supporting and strengthening our existing clubs, developing futures and ensuring that we will not lose anyone if we take the next step up.

Ideally all clubs should go into a State League with an Under 19 team, leaving the Reserves and Women and possibly an Under 16 team to fill a Northern League Competition.

  25. Guys, i have heard a rumor that FFT are looking at playing last weeks postponed games post season, can anyone confirm this? As all of the clubs that are involved in the catch up matches are out of State-wide Cup, i would have thought that the semi-finals weekend would have been the best and only time for these games??? Hopefully that is when they are played otherwise more headaches later on when it comes to final 4 which will be affected by these catch up matches?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey Chance Pretty useful comments there - most of which I agree with. I'm a dinosaur still getting a kick in the Ulverstone Reserves and certainly remember the old days of State League when there was a Senior and Reserve comp. As a young bloke back then there were some memorable bus trips!
I really like the idea of a five year plan that focuses on strengthening and consolidation of clubs. I think it is EXTREMELY important to lift the quality and consistency of coaching at all levels.
Regarding club facilities from my perspective I think it's a little unfair to be critical of Ulverstone on this. The changerooms at the Showgrounds are a good standard - equivalent for home or visiting teams and realistically are an interim arrangement until completion of the Showground development that will address most aspects. Even these 'interim' facilities are miles ahead of other clubs facilities.. and prior to this the facilities at Knights Road were again ahead of many clubs in the state. In saying this Burnie and Somerset are not far away from having great facilities (I think I'll have to keep playing for one more season so I can say I had a decent shower at Somerset!).
Anyway sick of typing (had enough of that at work today!) so let's keep the comments coming!

    Cheers

  27. Bad Boy, there is a note on the FFT website regarding postponed games. "Please note that we have over 90 matches that need to be rescheduled.
All matches still to be rescheduled have been parked on 30 September - Venue TBA - in the web page rosters."
Sounds as if its only interim at this stage? SURELY!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hopefully it is only interim Smithy, I am sure that the Knights and others would want to play on the Cup semi-final dates, as all hell would break loose at the end of the year when we need to have a finalized top four.

Prospect Knights, Sharks, Ulverstone and even Riverside are all in line for the last two spots at least, so if Knights have a game to play at seasons end to decide 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th, then who will play who in the top 4 playoffs, we cant guess who would win can we???
