SEVEN goals in a game of Australian Rules Football is impressive, but seven goals in a game of soccer is nothing short of amazing.
Burnie United striker Karla McCulloch has now achieved the incredible feat two years in a row, after her latest seven-goal haul coming last week in the Northern Women's Premier League game against Launceston United.

Last year, she managed it against fellow Launceston- based side University.

While seven-goal hauls are nice, McCulloch said she would rather have won a premiership.

In the 10 years she has been playing senior women's soccer, the best Burnie has managed was second, two years ago.

But McCulloch, 23, is quick not to take all the credit for last week's big win as just one of nine individual scorers in Burnie's 16-0 thrashing of Launceston United.

Team-mate Angela McKenzie was the next closest with three.

"It was a real team effort and our midfielders played a big role," a modest McCulloch said.

"Launceston are in a bit of a team re-building phase and they've only got three players left from last year's side," she said.

"We expect a tougher game against Devonport this week."

Devonport is currently third on the ladder and fourth-placed Burnie can draw level with a win this weekend.

  6. Burnie and Devonport played this game it very wet conditions and very cold both teams back and forth in the first half with the half time score being 1 - 1
Second half burnie took the lead 2 -1 and then the rain stopped and the wind came Devonport scored to make it 2-2 and then in the last seconds of the game Devonport Scored again to take the game
3 - 2 this game was played in great spirit welldone both teams.

  7. Some very interesting results in this round for all the teams - doubt if anyone would have been able to tip all the scores correctly LOL especially UTAS

  8. Considering the weather at the week-end it was good that all games were managed to be played.

Got it on good authority - that N Rangers have had 3 points deducted by FFT after complaints by City Allies for having 16 and not 15 players in the 7 - 1 game.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes 3 pts were deducted from Rangers, can't see what this achieves, certainly nothing to be gained by City Allies, severe reprimand sufficient for me,to lose the points for a misunderstanding, not good for the game, certainly not good for the girls who train hard then lose for a mistake,we don't need bad feelings in our game.Remember "Respect is earned in many different way's

  10. 3 Points deducted from NR is fair as John Crooks has done this most games!!! Unfair advantage and written in the rule book!

    ReplyDelete
  11. NR beat Allies fairly with 11 player on at all times ,its not as if there were 12 or more players at any time, yes 16 were named woopie sour grapes if you ask me. considering the rule has only been changed a warning would have been fair, like i said 11 players beat 11 allie players. John crooks was not made aware and maybe anonymous should put a name to the finger pointing. surely anonymous has made a simple mistake before.

  12. 7-1 northern rangers beat allies. its not as if it was 2-1 or something.

    ReplyDelete
  13. being a ranger player myself i can see why the allies would want our points taken away.. but in saying this why did nobody pick up the 16 players name on the team sheet earlier??? we are required to give them to the ref before the match starts so they can obviously look over them. this makes me think the ref didnt really look or didn't relise that the rules had changed for this year either.

But in saying we did play all our new players in the second half therfore not extending the points margin but giving the whole team a run and the more experienced players in positions they normally would not get to experience.
taking the points of the rangers ended up achiving nothing but ensuring that next time we play the Allies that we will want to well and trully want thrash them. Hence making them look like the silly ones.

  14. Its bad sportsmanship & sour grapes,Rangers were always going to win against the Allies just like Senior City team look to be un-beatable, they still have devonport to deal with though.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Here here, i wouldn't be saying City are un-beatable this season when they haven't even played Devonport yet who have some star talents playing. True that city are the team to beat again they are a quality side but everyone like to see the under dog come up & win LOL

We know who John Crooks is but we do not know who YOU are? why not put your name to the statement. John has been working hard not just with Northern Rangers Team but in promoting Women's Soccer in the State including youth development. What have you done to help the game? You also stated "done this most games!!!" well then as you know so much anon . . . name them!!!

  18. why would city put jason jones as president. did no1 else want it. i laughed when i heard at the presidents meeting he kept trying to talk about womens soccer. Does he yet understand the importance of soccer goes as seniors - 18s/ressys - women/div3. city women will walk in another premiership - well coached

  19. Anonymous the comment you make about who cares its only the womens comp i think you would be suprised on who cares. There is a lot of goood players in this comp if you cared to have a look some time. Yes there was a mistake made by Northern Rangers but its no good finger pointing as to whos to blame what is done is done im sure everyone will learn from this includeing the Referee as to check the team sheet. The Women pay rego just like everyone else does in this game and they deserve as much coverage as they can to support them you will find that both John Crooks and Stuart Lomax are doing are very good job to grow the Womens game in the North so how about startingto focus on some positives for the greatest game in the world

  20. Its no wonder that the women cant get coverage, support when we have idots in clubs who only care about themselves!

  21. Rangers have accepted this decision from FFT, my suggestion so does everyone else. It was an innocent mistake thats it! Lets me on

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thats "lets move on"

Keep the banter up though love it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I enjoy it and am glad that john & stewie are going out of there way to get more coverage. however i certainly like the social drinking side of it all too ha ha ha, thanks for the support governess & anyone else whom agress with governess

well well well!!!as it has been stated, innocent mistake which would have had no effect on the outcome as there was no 12th man on the field.
as for "anon" whoever you are stating "we do it at all our games" put your name to it and i am more than happy to discuss it further.
i know our club especially are more than happy having john and stewy representing wemons soccer and more importantly, having john as our coach, he has our utter and total support.
the second or even same "anon" stating "its only wemons soccer" can go back where they came from!

  26. HA ha ha love your work Shaz dog. Totally true

  27. It just goes to show how much more work needs to be done to gain the respect that the womens game deserves, when you have "PEA BRAINED" fools like anon PKFC,The NWPL players fees are the same as their male counterparts are just as (if not more )committed, play the same code, yet still struggle to be treated as an equal, then denigrated by fools,Mr P--- KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN,switch codes mate we don't need you bringing you red neck comments to our game.
To those who say Crooksy has been flaunting the rules "For Ever" then you had the responsibility to bring it to his attention, once might be deemed as a flaunting of the rules but more than once tells me he believed what he was doing was correct,I support him 100%, and what he has and what he continues to do for our Great Womens game.

  29. The sad thing I find with all this, is what does it achieve (Rangers losing points). Shouldnt of it have been handled before the game with a friendly "Hey mate havent you got too many players here"???

Seems to me that it was a plan to ensure one of the challengers to the main city team lost their points and get their second team some undeserved points which in the end they didnt get anyway (yet was proven a week later that they really werent a challenger anyway).

Bit sad really, but then again what would one expect.

    ReplyDelete
  30. haha while i agree about the comments from a couple of anons are wrong (an probably som1 just trying to wind people up) it is not really smart to come back with laughable comments such as the women are just as committed if not more.

to gain the respect the womens game deserves is an interesting statement tho. which is? and how is it goin to happen?

to be treated as equal. no sport in the world is equal between male an female because of the difference in standard an quality(except tennis but thats not really equal because its 3 sets vs 5). ul notice that women only want equality when it advantages them (sorry if that offends). its not goin to happen - you might be able to band together with the div 3 teams and help them lift their profile as well - strength in numbers

    ReplyDelete
  31. exactly what one would expect from city would be the answer

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree that woman in sport will never get same recognition as men which is normal and i cant see ever changing. however i think the main point alot of people are trying to work towards is to get more rcognition for female soccer, more teams more players etc etc, have female preview & reviews in papers some more coverage would be great. Anyways while we are on the subject woman will always have the upper hand over men as we have what you men want and i think you know what im saying!!!!!LOL PURRR PURRR

  33. Some good comments POG, the real issue facing the womens game in the state at the moment, is improving the standard. At the moment too many blow outs which have apart from one side in the mens comp has been eliminated. City are streets ahead of everyone else maybe Devonport can match them but I doubt it! At the moment the interest is down due to the fact the standard isnt there, this weekend 1st v 2nd 7-1 to the top side, this just wouldnt happen in the mens league. Somehow we need to improve the standard at a grass roots level, so by the time these young girls get the NWPL they have all the basic skils etc. At the moment you get a lot of girls show up in their late teens, early 20s who have never palyed before, so ahve to learn the game at the highest level (not that they shouldnt by the way). Something to think about.
