KURT REYNOLDS APPOINTED LAUNCESTON CITY SOCCER

CLUB SENIOR CLUB COACH FOR 2010 & 2011

Launceston City Soccer Club is proud to announce the appointment

of former Australian Young Socceroos Captain and ex National Soccer

League Player, Kurt Reynolds, as Senior Club Coach for the next 2 Seasons.

Reynolds will take over from Peter Savill, who will retire from Coaching

after developing a competitive young squad over the last 2 seasons

following a major rebuilding phase within the clubs playing ranks.

Club Secretary Tony Rossi, confirmed that City is looking forward to the

coming season with some optimism and excitement, after completing a

rigorous process in locating suitable coaches for the coming season.

Rossi added, “The Club is excited to welcome back one of our old boys

after a 25 year absence – our only Australian Representative Player. Kurt’s

appointment will enable the Club to continue to develop youth and in turn

assist the Club in achieving gradual improvement towards the ultimate goal

of regaining our position as one of the leading Soccer Clubs in the State.”

He added, “City’s feeder Club, Westside Devils, is one of the largest

Junior Clubs in the state & continues producing a high number of quality

players of both sexes, so we’ve really had to look at investing in suitably

qualified high level Coaches who will assist these youngsters as they

progress into Senior Soccer.”

Reynolds last played for Launceston City in 1984 before being selected into

the AIS football squad where he spent 2 & half years under mentors Jimmy

Shoulder & Ron Smith in Canberra. Reynolds has recently returned

to Australia after spending the last 7 years working in the Middle East. A

seasoned professional athlete, who has experienced the Australian Youth

and Senior Development programs, Reynolds possesses an abundance of

playing experience at National and International level. One of the

highlights of his career was captaining the Australian Young Socceroos at

the World Youth Cup, Chile , South America in 1987. He has played over

150 National Soccer League games & holds an Asian Football

Confederation “C” Advanced Level Football Coaching Licence.

Reynolds will be ably assisted by long serving Club stalwart, Lino Sciulli who has been appointed

as Reserves Coach. Jason & Jenni Jones will continue in their roles as Coaches of City’s 2

Womens Premier League Teams. The Under 18’s Coach has yet to be appointed.

Rossi also confirmed the following information:

- Reynolds will be in attendance at the Launceston City Soccer Club Xmas Family BBQ

on Friday 4th December at Mitsubishi Park from 7.00 pm.

- Formal pre season training to commence in early January 2010 with all existing and

new players welcome to attend. Further details will be made available via the Club’s

website.

- Launceston City is exploring plans to develop a “Pre-season Cup” involving a high

profile interstate team across both Men’s & Womens Soccer.

- Launceston City Soccer Club was founded in 1958. In Season 2009, it boasted in

excess of 105 players across 7 teams.

- Launceston City Soccer Club’s feeder Club, named Westside Devils Junior Soccer

Club, which has in excess of 400 players registered.

- Launceston City Soccer Club & Westside Devils Junior Soccer Club home base is

Mitsubishi Park in Prospect

- Mitsubishi Park is one of the State’s largest Sporting complexes hosting 2 senior size

soccer pitches, Club rooms and sits adjacent to Prospect Park

Northern Rangers FC Announce Coaching Staff for 2010 Season.

Northern Rangers FC are pleased to announce that Adam Whitemore has been appointed as Senior Coach for the 2010 Season, as Northern Rangers look to defend their Premiership from 2009.

Adam Whitemore coached George Town united in the 90’s and had a brief stint as co coach with Northern Rangers in 2005. He also has extensive playing experience with over 20 years to his name while at George Town in the State League and at Northern Rangers where he has, club best and fairest and captain’s honors.

Whitemore brings with him Tony Ludby as his assistant coach, also a previous player with George Town united and Northern Rangers.

The pair will work closely and build on a personal relationship as a coaching duo and will focus on fitness and the technical aspects of football.

As past players of the club, both Adam Whitemore and Tony Ludby have already got the respect of the majority of the playing group who have played along side them in previous years, while Whitemore had a part in the 2009 success as the club's trainer.

Whitemore is appointed with the blessing of the clubs only senior premiership coach Roslan Sa’ad, who returns to Singapore after a two year stint with the club.

Pre season training dates will be announced shortly.

The club would like to pass on its sincere thanks to Roslan Sa’ad and Carlo Ercole for their success in the 2009 season and service to the club.

Northern Ranger FC

International rules match between the Ulverstone Soccer Club and the Ulverstone Football Club

Rotary and the Ulverstone council are running international week throughout the community and as part of that each business in Ulverstone has adopted a country for the week. As part of this the Ulverstone Football Club (as Ireland) is going to play the Ulverstone Soccer Club (as Wales) in an international rules fixture under lights at the Ulverstone Football Ground as a culmination to the week. It is being held Friday October the 16^th. There will be an Under 18 and Senior match. We will be using some high profile recruits currently playing in the TSL to prop up the team. We may have a couple of spots for any interested players from other Northern Premier League teams if they are keen. The footy club is predicting a crowd in excess of 2000 for the event which will have full bar facilities at the ground.

I think the State Wide Championship is a great series, it has kept the season interesting until the very last league game for clubs like Ulverstone, Somerset, Riverside, Prospect in the north and Newtown, Kingborough, Clarence and Glenorchy in the south, it gives clubs something to play for and as had been said “finals are the Australian Way!”

I would change it slightly to go a little something like this

Tasmanian Champions League.

Going on this season’s results,

Top three from the north and the top three from the south qualify automatically for the following seasons Champions league, that would be from the south, South Hobart, Tilford Zebs and Glenorchy knights, with Northern Rangers, Devonport Strikers and Prospect Knights from the North.

4th and 5th from south and north would go into play offs at end of the year (Clarence United vs Kingborough Lions and Riverside Olympic vs Somerset Sharks) in a home and away round qualifying final with away goals counting.

At the end of each year you would have the 4 teams from north and 4 from the south, draw them into 2 random groups of four (done by FFT sometime), they would then play a home and away series (6 games in total) during the next year, we already play four games in the SWC anyway so you would be only finding an extra 2 weekends in the year for this.

Remainder of the clubs in the state will form the State Wide Vase (as in 2000 ) as a second tear comp. this gives the lower teams a greater chance of winning some silverware so it’s a win win

You would be left with the following in a State Wide Vase knock out Competition.

So they have 4 knock out rounds from round of 16 to the vase final any way to play during the 6 weeks the TCL would be playing.

The TCL could start a week before the season proper starts to get things rolling and finish on the week after the last round of matches.

Then following that, the top two in each group of the Tas Champions League would cross over to play each other, 1st from group one to play 2nd from group two and 1st from group two would play 2nd from group one in a home and away leg with away goals counting, the winners to advance to the State wide Champions League one game only final at KGV regardless of who is there.

If you still had the need to play the winner of the Northern League v the winner of the southern league for the State Champions game you could, but I cant see the point if you went with the above plan.

So you would have available in 2011

A Southern Premiership
A Northern Premiership
A Tasmanian Champions League Champion
A State Wide Vase Winner
Possible State Cup game.
Teams would be bustling for State Wide Champions League Qualification for the following season, while the State Wide Champions League sides would be trying to get into the top two in their group to qualify for the Tasmanian Champions League Finals.

This should in theory eliminate the all four southern teams in the State wide championship, but it still could end up that way if the random draw comes out right!

You get a far more comprehensive State Wide League taste and I think any team in their right mind would be after the Tasmanian Champions League mantel. FFT should probably make the final prize money allocation atleast even with NPL and SPL Premiers as to TCL champions winners cheque.
